Acer TravelMate 8100!!!

Is it just me or does this laptop kick some serious butt!

http://www.acer.com.sg/products/trav...elmate8100.asp

All this power and screen real estate and only 6.3 pounds, 1.4" thick at its thickest point, and a $2200 starting price tag! (don't quote me on the price, I found it on some foreign site, but it said US dollars)

This seems too good to be true!

Anyone have an Acer laptop who can vouch for the brand?

The CL56 is lighter (ever so slightly), thinner, is avaliable with more RAM, bigger/faster HDD, comparable screen/build quality, and will save you, maybe 500-600 dollars.

But the CL56 isn't a Sonoma laptop with DDRII, 533 mhz bus, mobility X700 graphics, etc. is it? Are they releasing a new version of it?

CL56 != Sonoma Platform

Look closer at teh specs for the Travelmate 8100 series...

533mhz bus, DDR2 ram, PCI-E, ATI Radeon X700...

This is a Sonoma laptop not a Centrino v.1.0

This is indeed nice. PCI-E!!!!

Extraordinary mobile performance comes from the heart and soul of this powerhouse: an Intel® Pentium® M processor with 533 MHz FSB, the Intel® 915PM Express chipset, and dual-channel DDR2 533 MHz memory. This potent combination means processing speeds increase radically, facilitating high efficiency multitasking and CPU-intensive applications. The TravelMate 8100 delivers exceptional responsiveness to the fast-changing business environment, encouraging you to stay on top.

Constant wireless connectivity, regardless of the 802.11 standard used, is made possible by the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG (dual-band tri-mode 802.11a/b/g) Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ network solution. Bolstered by Acer SignalUp technology, which enables stable wireless connections even at the boundary of an access point's range, you can maintain close contact with your network of business partners and customers. Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX-V3) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) compatibility keeps you secure in knowing that your transmissions remain confidential, even over public networks.

ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ X700 with 128MB of DDR Video RAM

about 0.6117 USD

Finally, somebody with some cahoonas. I noticed that the 1690 and 8100 come in 15.4" wide aspect monitors. I think ACER just made my short list unless Dell, HP, and IBM wow me tomorrow.

That is a pretty nice price for this laptop. I wouldn't mind really seriously look into it.

X600 ATI, but why 64MB RAM? ahahahaha that is exactly the same as doing ATI 9700 w/ 64MB ahahaha
post #16 of 1678
crud, no docking option for that one. Guess I'm gonna have to go with the m6bne.

Yea, but the 8100 has a docking option and it looks better than the one they had in the 8000. I have an 8000 and it's been very reliable and FAST. We use it at the office for some specialized applications. Left palm rest gets a little warm... only complaint.

i wonder when we will see theses in canada/america!
yea i know the 8100 has the EZdock option, but the laptop is more than what I can afford. Well the 8100s on the website run at least $2k. Me= college student=poor

X600 is a 9600 converted to PCI-Express, so I don't think this will be as fast as a 9700.
