Lastdon, that's a drag! So, are you telling me that the dead pixel just showed up? You've had that notebook for a while now.

alexrud, from the reseller on ebay. Was supposed to get it 24. February but the hotel refused to accept the package and now I have to have it shipped to Iceland and pay alot more for the computer ( Stupid taxes )

And the reseller refuses to give me full refund for my computer.

So I'm kinda stuck with a computer that I don wan't anymore since I'll have to wait for about 2 weeks for it to finally get here. And pay alot more for the computer.

I've asked the reseller on ebay numerous times to give me a refund since this is a bit special situation. I bought that laptop to recieve it in Washington. But that didn't work out and he refuses to give full refund.

Not so happy. Really wante'd to get a Shuttle XPC for games and 15" Powerbook/iBook for school. But thats out of the question since he refuses to give me full refund

You should just resell it on e-bay again.

Well, not anymore:
On Monday, Microsoft disabled Internet activation for all Microsoft Windows XP product keys located on COA labels that are adhered to PCs from large, OEMs who have direct licensing agreements with Microsoft. Directly licensed OEMs are authorized by Microsoft to customize their branded re-installation and recovery media so that if installed on the hardware it shipped with the Windows XP operating system will not require end-user activation.

Internet based product activation will remain available to all customers using products that require product activation today. The only attempts at activation that will be rejected are those using product keys that were pre-activated for the hardware they shipped with by OEMs on behalf of customers.

There is a way around it. Since you are going to use same key on the same hardware, before reinstalling save a copy of wpa.dbl file from your C:\WINDOWS\System32 directory. After reinstall, copy that file back and your Windows is active. Ta-da!

It's not just TM8104, it's the other hardware too. Drops a lot with D-Link DWL-2100 access point, does not drop with D-Link DI-624 wireless router. Both have latest version of firmware. Go figure

hmm when i use the one that came with the laptop the intergrated lan,
with my smc router and my dlink router, both wireless, it drops connections

Darthacer...

I can't believe Microsoft did that, the bastards. I made a copy of that file in the windows/system32 folder you spoke of and saved it to my portable HD, but how can I put it back when I reformat if I can't activate Windows anyway to open the file folders?

My wireless works fine. Never drops. I have an SMC router and I'm usually 1 floor up in my house when on wi-fi.

Just postpone activation during install - it allows you to use non-activated WinXP for 30 days. Then copy file.

Edit: Forgot to say that it's a good idea (don't remember if it's absolutely necessary) that the last step (copy wpa.dbl to C:\WINDOWS\System32) is done when you load WinXP in Safe mode.

Some people managed to install a second copy of OEM version of WinXP on their other computer. For instance, you buy laptop with OEM WinXP and install a copy on your self-assembled desktop, and activate there. That's what Microsoft is preventing now from happening. And I have nothing against that Microsoft move (I'm totally legit on all computers I'm running at home and in the office).

This is only a theory but I think the X700 driver that was provided on the Acer cd's had a higher clock speed by default which was locking it up and causing all kinds of horizontal and vertical screen anomolies. The driver that was actually installed with xp when it came to me was much more stable.

in the US, the specs are different, I am typing on my 8103 right now and listed in Control Panel, on the sticker and in Sisoft's Sandra Benchmarking tool, the 8103 comes standard with (US)

Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional; Intel® Pentium® M Processor 750 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB); 512MB (512/0) DDR2 533 SDRAM; 100GB hard drive 5400RPM; modular Super-Multi (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM) drive; 5-in-1 card reader; 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) TFT display; ATI® MOBILITY™ RADEON® X700 graphics, 128MB DDR; 802.11a/b/g WLAN, Bluetooth™, gigabit LAN, V.92 modem

In the US, this is the spec, and I'm 100% positive of it, I've had my 8103 for over 2 weeks. The Ram is one stick, with one open slot. I can take pictures for proof here, it's printed on the box, sticker, in all benchmarks.... no 80gb slow hard drive!

Grainy picture

Is it just me or is the picture a bit grainy when watching videos on full screen? I'm guessing it's cos I'm running on the highest resolution.

I'm running with a Netgear MR814v2 wireless router, and have noticed no problems with the signal being dropped.
What I have noticed is that my red WiFi light on the front isn't always on, even when the link is active.
Doesn't bother me, but if anyone can shed light on whether this is a fault or a 'feature' I'd be interested to hear.

Why is M$ making it so hard to be a law abiding citizen? Honestly, it’s really tempting to just hack the activation feature even though I’ll legally own a license to the software.
