Thanks a lot, Michael!

That sounds MUCH better!

Thanks!
It is a bit slower than my last notebook but I don't notice it as much after a few weeks. My suggestion is to buy a Bluetake BT500 -(Bluetooth) (I got mine on ebay for about 20% less, brand new in the case). I love the speed of this mouse and you will too!

Did you get this with or without the USB adapter? I've read that HID must be supported for this mouse, but can't find anything to state whether the 8100's built-in adapter does. Bit of a BT noob, so forgive me if it's a stupid question.

Dell is uglier, thicker
The Dell will seem much much bigger. The 8100 series is already a large laptop. The Dell adds an extra inch. I have a 17" ZD7000 and its basically sworn me off of 17" laptops. Its simply too physically big to travel with. The 8100 is almost too big to travel with.

And its a dell. Great price, crap build quality and crap service.

But the mobile 6800 is sweet, very very tempting.

Well PCnation is surely one of the worst online stores I have dealt with now... I was told I was to be the first in line for the next shipment of the 8104 (back on 2/02)...well friday they're site showed them they had them in (like all the other online stores did)...

email goes out that morning(friday).... I get no reply.... Phone calls gets made monday morning (today), nothing gets done... why? because my "agent" isn't in office to deal with this!

Should of ordered from newegg last week when they had them in stock

Of course UPS screwed up and now my laptop will be delivered one day later. That one extra day is going to be one looooong day.

Without the adapter. Works great and very fast with the built-in bluetooth. That saves about $20 off the price too!

Hodnick: I was #7 on PC Nations list back in Feb. but jumped on to newegg one night late when a post went out that night. They seem to have them when nobody else did. It was a challenge working with them because I ship to a different address than my billing address even though I have both listed with my credit card company. I'm not the only post on this isssue so beware and stay on top of newegg if it applies to you. Fed. Ex delivered it the 2nd day and 7 hours early! I called PC Nation the next day to cancel, then emailed them, then called my rep and still no contact back. They didn't even call me back to sell me the Acer total care warranty so I had to call CDW to purchase it!

FYI if anyone out there is still salivating for an 8104,
bestselectionsunlimited
dot com
informed me they have a couple in stock. I bought mine from them at the end of January. I pulled them out of thin air but the purchase was flawless. 2-day air was about $37. I think I was their first rater on resellerratings and elsewhere. They're a reseller with a lengthy return policy and at least a 15% restock fee, so plan on buying it and dealing with Acer unless it's damaged in transit. If you call them don't mind the accents, we're a melting pot and I think they're based in nu yahk. Again, my purchase was flawless and they actually called me back to confirm it was really in stock at the warehouse. They didn't charge my credit card until they and I got a tracking number. Anyway, just an FYI, I ain't gettin a commission!

Can you buy the extended warranty from acer also? Main reason I stuck with pcnation is because they can sell me the warranty with it. But I'm goin to keep an eye on newegg... last week when they had them for sale, I kept thinking... 'pcnation will have it soon'.... but yet I'm wrong =\

Sure you can but why pay $280 from Acer when you can get it for $199.00 from any Acer reseller. I received mine in the mail today; shipped from Acer and I've registered it on line!

I purchased my 8104 from Newegg also and decided on the 15th day after that I would break down and buy the extended warranty also although I loathe them.
Couldn't find them on Neweggs site so I bought from CDW. The interesting part is when I went to check to see if it had shipped I came across a financial link that states that beginning April 1st CDW wil be charging tax on purchases to ALL states. I suppose this will happen with all companies before long.

siestaseaturtle: make sure that you go to acer's site and register the extened warranty. I believe the warranty states that it must be done within 15 days of its purchase. I also believe that it can be purchased anytime during the first year of the laptop warranty. I doubt most companies will jump on the band wagon and charge sales tax unless they have physical locations within the particular states...too much accounting!

golfkwesi: Thanks. I did register the 8104 on day 15 but I do not have the warranty in hand yet. I will go to Acer's site as soon as I get it and register the warranty. Hope that works. You're probably correct about other companies as it would pose some accounting headaches.

It took CDW and Acer over a week to get the warranty folder delivered. It is sent from Acer and has a label showing it was purchased from CDW.

These are great tips! I had not seen this warranty anywhere and will order it from CDW asap. Glad I can still do that after the fact. Is the warranty service performed on-site? Can someone send a link?

Thanks heaps!

ACER TM4002LMi vs TM4101LMi

ACER TM4002LMi vs TM4101LMi

I cannot decide between these 2 models:
a) TM 4002 LMi with 15" PM 725 1.6 GHz, 512 RAM, 60 GB HD, ATI 9700 64 MB, 855 GME 400 MHz 2 MB cache (Dochan) which I found at 1014.30 euros from notebookparadies.de (+17.50 euros to get it sent to France where I am)
b) TM 4101 LMi with 15" PM 730 1.6 GHz, 512 RAM, 60 GB HD, ATI X600, 915 GM/PM 533 MHz 2 MB cache (Sonoma) which I found at 1211.80 euros from yagma.com (+17.00 euros to get it sent to me)

Is the difference (almost 200 euros) worth what I get? the Sonoma processor and the new but small graphic card?

I was also considering some fujitsu-siemens, that came with ATI 9700 128 RAM, but I have read to many bad things about them. ¨Please, dont tell me to buy the acer 8004 and so, cause this is double the price i'm talking about. But if u know any other notebooks with comparable price and gadgets, i'd love to know.

I would appreciate some help here guys!

michael@trendse: acersupport.com Click on " Extend your warranty".

Golfkwesi: Thanks for the info. I was wondering why it had not shipped yet as I ordered it last Friday. Hopefully CDW lets Acer know that I purchased it on the last day possible. Acer says that the warranty must be registered within 15 days of purchase so I'll see what happens.

First of all this is the 8100 thread so please do not post anywhere you feel, there is a certain place for every kind of query!

Nevertheless I will respond to you. Go for the newer TM4101LMi, the graphics on that machine can beat the MR 9700! < thats because they're the new PCI express type. And I would definately go for the new Sonoma chipset with the new 915 GM/PM 533MHz bus simply because of the better technology IMO.
