can you give us your impression of the screen

mic_crispy,
Let us know if its the 8103 or 8104 model.....most importantly ....give us your impressions of the screen (sharpness, color, clarity, viewing angles, white/black levels, brightness)....some photos of the screen in action would be the best!! Thanks, and congrats on your new sonoma-based notebook! (also let us know about fan-noise)

i have a 8104
the screen is very crisp and sharp. NFSU 2 has NO ghosting and NO lag. i was going to use my 17in perfect flat monitor for viewing at home.. but not anymore. its got the picture and sharpness of xbrite, but not the "clear" look.

sorry for the bad pic quality, low lighting in my room / bad shadows. ill get some more when it is more bright in my room. but just to let you guys know, if the screen is the deal breaker in this laptop go ahead and get it. i love it, text is so much easier to read than my old crt.

Congrats mic crispy!!! You'll have to fill us in on all the details like boot up times, responsiveness, screen clairity and all the other junk.
boot time is quick. under a minute? about 1 "snake" at windows start up. but i plan on reinstalling with my new 7200rpm hdd in the next hour or so.

The deal maker/breaker for me is noise. Please give your impressions on this! Do you hear the fan (or drive) in a quiet room? Does it completely turn off under light loads? How noisy does it get under high loads? Does it cycle?

Thanks!

cool, thx a lot crispy...

I got spoiled by looking at Fujitsu Clearbrite screen, can't decided either got with 17 inch or this Acer

Mic_Crispy,
Thanks for the fast posting of pics and reply!
I have a 8103 on order and am really nervous about the screen...considering i'm currently have been using a Fujitsu N6010 with the Cristleview 17" wide screen.......when you say with your comparison to the xbrite screens (which are very much like the fujitsu cristalview screens) that it is not "Clear"...but it is sharp, etc.....are you saying its just not "glossy"...or do things seem fuzzy.....how are the black/white levels.....are the blacks very black or greyish...are the whites very white or blueish/creamy/light gray?

I see you're checking out the multitasking ability lol!! So how does NFS run by the way?

One more question mic_crispy......the 100gb drive that comes in it...is it 4200rpm or 5400rpm....if it's a seagate it most likely is 5400rpm (the momentus)...otherwise it's probably 4200rpm

It would be nice if you can compare those 2
post #233 of 1678
the hdd is 5400 rpm. the screen is very sharp and the black / white levels are good. its not as super bright as xbrite, but it is very bright. but again its very clean, no blurring.

nfsu runs so perfect i cant believe it. watch a laptop run this game better than my amd64 3200+ with 5900 is amazing. everything turned all the way up and no chopping. time to sell my desktop!

there is not a sound in my house right now and i can slightly here the fan. one thing you dont hear at all is the hdd. the fan is very low under light loads, loud enougfh to where the typing i am doing right now is louder, and under heavy loads its only slightly louder, but still you can hear it. if i turn on any music, or the phone rings, or anything else it totally washes out the fan noise from the laptop. i dont think you have much to worry about.

Thanks again mic_crispy...i can't wait to get mine in. However screens are still something that just are hard to look at via pictures on the internet, other peoplel's opinions, etc........Because screens really need to be looked at first hand....and everyone's eyes are different, etc...
However, i'll take your word on it that, while it's not a cristalview/xbrite screen, it is above par from alot of the other non-glossy screens from acer, or anyone else.
Please post more pics when you get a chance.
Thanks again.

did it get hot after playing NFS2?
So how's the heat? Is it really hot to touch the touchpad as they say?
Mic crispy you're a hell of a nice poster and I for one appreciate your patience for replying so fast and being so helpful. Man outperforming and AMD 3200 is quite the feat, if what you say is true next week I'll be in pc heaven!!

Does anyone know if the 8004 can output to 1600 x 1200 DVI monitor like the Samsung 213T?
