Damn, I thought I found the perfect notebook......When the F$%# is someone going to make a damn lappy with a WSXGA+ Glossy Screen
The new released Dell Inspiron 6000 has WSXGA+ or even WUXGA with glossy screen.

Anyone know if it have a metal chasis or a plastic one?

Also, the travelmate 8100 and many other Acer have Hot-swappable AcerMedia Bay modules (8X DVD-Super Multi double layer optical drive, secondary battery, or secondary hard disc drive of up to 100 GB)
But I can't find any info about them except that by default it come with the optical drive and that the release latch is under the laptop.

If you're looking to play games on the 6000 forget it.It has integrated graphics...what a waste of technology!!!

This surely looks nice!
I personally don't care about the new centrino...the old was fine too...or even an A64 was even better for games. BUT at last there is another more widely used 8 pipeline GPU!!!!!!! MR9800 was practically useless since it was only in DELL XPS...

At last you can get decent performance without having to pay for the monster 12 pipeline cards... The gap from 12 pipes(MRX800, 6800go) to 4 (MR9700) was huge, both performancewise and moneywise... Now the MRX700 is there to fill this gap!

This is my dream laptop, if I can get it for around 1600 euros...I don't mind using an 1.73 dothan to lower the cost...I hope its possible.

I got a question though, that will probably matter most in my decision...
This PCIe X700 is supposed to be upgradeable.... I can understand the principle (all ATI GPUs will use the same format) but my question is this...since the laptops with X800 are bigger in size, can an X800 fit in this kind of laptop? Because if it can't then there is not much point in upgrading....

However if it CAN, then this thing can be huge! You got decent performance for today and support of all the newer stuff! In 1-2 years you could put in a 2.5GHz Dothan, new 2Gb DDR2 RAM and a 16 pipeline card and keep your laptop alive for another 2 years!

Can someone answer me this? I know you can't possibly know if a 16 pipeline card will fit in there (since there is no such thing out yet), but if an X800 could fit, then I think there's a very good chance the next cards will also do....and even if they dont you stil got the oportunity to upgrade to X800 later for a 50% graphics boost which is not so bad...

I am defintely liking this laptop myself, one thing that worries me is the screen. Waiting for some reviews....

I don't think it's a matter a fitting I think it's a matter of overheating. The x800's higher clock speed would likely be to much for the smaller Sonoma based laptops which probably shares the cooling fan to save weight and size.

just a hunch...

Why in the world would they put Integrated Graphics on this, plus I don't think it has the glossy screen.

I dunno maybe ATI couldn't meet the demand for all those laptops releasing the x series gpu's. If you think about it they had there work cut out for them and right now they're probably playing catch up.

It look's like Eurocom changed their shp date for the M400A COBRA. The date for shipment used to be JAN 19. That sucks it's a nice looking set up.

To see it go to the futures section at the top of their site:

the laptop's graphics should be upgradable but i doubt to the mrx800 because of the heat. ati will always have newer generation stuff coming out though. eventually they should have an even more powerful 8-pipeline to replace the mrx700 which should work for this type of lappy. also it's possible that as they continue to shrink the die process to .11 and eventually .09 (plus eventually using low-k on each of those) that a 12 or even 16-pipeline card could be sustained within those same thermal limitations.

I think I'll give it another week because none of these sellers allow you to configure anything. It's definately a step in the right direction.
