Just the weight. Can anyone attest to how it feels to carry around? I probably won't take it everywhere just to class at my university when I have presentations.

Right now, I don't know of any other laptop that matches the specifications of this laptop and is lighter or same weight. The new Asus' maybe? Give me some info please.
i have a sony vaio at 6.28lbs hmm it's not heavy at all.
very portable. i can't wait for my 8104 to arrive!

Finally, congrat!

I was searching for the 8104/8103 since Jan 25 (when first read about it in this forum), I'll wait until they have them available in stock, prices may be a bit lower by then, hopefully

Thanks olli3. First UK site selling them, I think. I'm not sure you'll find it much cheaper for a while yet, but what do I know?
They're not listed as a reseller on the Acer UK site, but I gather from other posts that Acer may not be too reliable on this. They're offering the extended warranties, so I guess they must be legit.

Indeed: DigiUK are showing 3 models: 8101, 8103 and 8104, with specs as above, although Acer are still silent on the matter.

Reg

[edit] Now also showing in the UK at www.technoworld.com - slightly cheaper than DigiUK, and with Stock quoted as 0. I guess Acer must've started releasing the info to resellers now.
Technoworld's descriptions a bit misleading - 8104 has 512Mb and 1024Mb .
Neither site has got the right photos yet, either.

cheers for the heads up on the UK sides, although for some reson the 8104 on the Technoworld site shows it as having512 of ram, but also 1gb ram???? what going on

The Digi UK has it as 1gb DDR II RAM

I hope it is 1gb i nthe UK on that model

I'm sure it is 1Gb. They probably did a Copy and Paste, and forgot to delete the 512 when inserting the 1024. They also have the 8101 & 8103 with a DVDRW Super Multi, but the 8104 with a DVDRW, which I'm sure is another mistake. Interesting that they quote the 8101 & 8103 as having 2x256Mb RAM, when others have found 1x512 quoted for 8103.

As for the pictures, that's got to be a mistake. The Acer UK site at least shows the right machine, even if the configurations aren't visible yet.

Thanks reg.t Its good news that the 8104 is already on offer here in the uk. I live about 10 mins from heathrow airport and have noticed that the Acer head office is only 20 mins drive from me, might pop over and find out whats going on with the 8104 if anyone wants.

The more information we have, the better, as far as I'm concerned. Cheers.

According to this review of the Acer 8104, "The keyboard is curved 5 degrees which Acer in their brochures optimises the typing angle. However, the curvature seemed to bring the keys closer together resulting in frequent typos by way of pressing multiple keys simultaneously."

If this true?

Also, is video card upgradeable?

Whoohooo. Just got notification email from CDW. My 8104 should arrive monday.

I was set to purchase 8103 when it would become widely available, but in the mean time I purchased Travelmate 3201XCi which is going back to reseller, and one of the reasons is the keyboard. It's impossible to type fast on it without missing some keystrokes. I am curious if the same could be the case with 81xx series. I've ordered 2 3201XCi and both experienced the same problem. Makes me miss my M6NBe that had great keyboard.

IMHO:
Some typos, but I don't consider it a showstopper. It's as much the small kybd as the curve. The curve is at the top and mostly at the sides where the ESC-left and DEL-right are, which you usually have to lift your hand to get to anyway. The main keys are full size, only the ESC-Fkeys etc are half size. As on most kybds I mis-hit the tab and caps alot. It's nice that even though there is a caps lock light (hard to see) it also flashes a text note lower right screen when you toggle caps on\off. I can generally type text easily, as I am now.

Dunno if the video is upgradeable. Haven't read that it is, and I can't find it! I suspect it is responsible for the constantly warm and sometimes hot touchpad. I tried to remove my keyboard but couldn't get it off. Like many it has push-pins at the top but it still wouldn't come loose. Didn't want to force it. Also can't uncover the CPU, wherever IT is, so I don't know how I'll blow out dust and I guess Arctic Silver is out of the question. Maybe I'll remove the DVD and blow canned air toward the fan outlet at the opposite side. The entire bottom does unscrew so "someday" perhaps I'll try that. It is under warranty, so hopefully it's protected.
