Kinda depends on where you are and what you mean. If UK or US, then read the thread for online retailers. As there's been virtually no stock, and demand is exceeding supply, I'd be surprised if you could find a physical store that had either stock or a display machine anywhere at the moment.

hmmm.... Thats about $2200 £1200. Just getting smaller disk and 1.6ghzcpu. For me I would pay that little bit more and get the 8103/04 model

Acer UK posted a new February price list and the 8100 models are listed (also 4600's), with summary specifications (for UK models).

8103WLMi is listed with "512MB DDR2 (2 * 256)".
The comparison chart later in the document indicates drive spin-speeds: "60/80 GB (4200 rpm), 100 GB (5400 rpm)". So only the 8104 has a 5400 RPM drive.
(But bear in mind that other Acer sites around the world have posted incorrect specs.)

Acer EzDock 'accessory package' (=port replicator?) is listed at £169 (ouch - compare to 8000's EasyPort III at £59)

Also listed in there are HDD media bay modules (80GB and 100GB), battery packs (8 cell and 6 cell).

So UK list prices are £999, £1099 and £1299 for the 8101, 8103 and 8104 respectively, + VAT.

A few more UK sites now listing them (in roughly descending price order) www.ebuyer.com www.dabs.com www.insight.com www.shopacer.co.uk www.digiuk.com and www.technoworld.com. ShopAcer have a 1.5% credit card surcharge.

Approx ex-VAT prices are around £930-£961 for 8101, £1024-£1057 for 8103, and £1210-£1250 for 8104. If you add VAT & Next Day delivery, the 8104 totals £1436-£1487.

A couple of sites (DigiUK and Insight) expecting the 8104 on 1st March. Probably most others have the same information. As far as I have seen, only Insight currently claims to have stocks of the 8101 and 8103.

Other resellers quoted on the Acer UK site with no details up yet include www.24store.com www.acernotebooks.co.uk www.inmac.co.uk www.laptopshop.co.uk misco.co.uk and www.wstore.co.uk

I've placed an order for the 8104 with DigiUK. Hope it won't be more than a 2 week wait.

I am SO excited that my Acer TM 8104 will be here (supposedcly!) any day!

I just KNOW I am going to love it, after reading so many rave recviews at this site.

Where did you order yours from? I am still waiting to hear a reply from
anyone who ordered one from PC Mall. I hope they mean what they say when they give you expected arrival dates.

Dont understand, I sent email to every shop there is that sells that computer. NOBODY have them in stock or can get me it before 24-28. February, then I read here that you are getting your computers like 18. February..

Very strange, I must get that computer, what ever it costs..

If there is no chance for me to get it, what notebook is comperable to the 8104..

Simular weight, screen, memory, graphic card...

Take what "they" say with a grain of salt. I ordered mine on Jan 24th and I'm just now getting mine tommorow. Only reason I know for sure is my UPS tracking number. Oh well, If I had gotten it today my wife would of been mad that I didn't give her my complete attention on V-day.

Acer needs to start selling to major retailers such as BestBuy, Circuit City, CompUSA or start to sell directly from www.acer.com if they are claiming to be the 4th largest pc vendor

Great comment, I asked them if they just couldn't start shipping to the major resellers or just sell directly trough their site. The demand for this computer is so much they cant handle it.

Not very good that alot of people wants to get their hands on this computer but cant have them because they always send so little of them every week..

the Acer TM8100 family is arriving in small quantaties every week, with large shippments arriving mid March.

This was the answer from them when I asked them; Why I couldn't get them at any resellers.

hello guys,

I'm new to notebookforums but after reading this thread I went ahead and ordered a TM 8104 from CDW on the 1/31/2005. After speaking with kevin he assured me that I was towards the top of the list on getting one but he still claims that they will not get a shipment before the 2/28/2005. After reading some of the posts on here I find that a little strange so I was very much hoping that for example you "srw101" or someone else that recives their 8100 early provide some proof so I could inquire further with cdw.

got the 8103, it has the 1.87 ghz processor 533mhz bus intel 750 processor and one bank of 512mb jsut to clear up a few things, gotta play around with it for awhile, let me know if anyone has any questions.

Actually, about 2 years ago they were selling directly from their site in the US. At the same exact time I was checking ASUS, which neither sold anything from their site nor had any resellers (or at least no useable information about them). I very much wanted ASUS laptop at the time. Ended up with Acer. And I do not regret it ever since.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly the package weighs 13 lbs and I'm convinced it's really a laptop lol I've been tracking it since I got the confirmed shipped e-mail it's sitting in Illinois right now due to get here tommorow. I'll keep you posted for sure.

Wow they must of had even fewer 8103's considering you placed your order before I did. I can't say for sure that you'll get yours since you had the 8103 but maybe by chance they got some of of those in too.
