The new Acer 8104 has quite nice design, on the other hand the Acer 8006 has terrible design.

It's absolutely brilliant! I can finally breath a sigh of relief and to those waiting I can honestly say the wait was worth it. It's very snappy and responds really fast. Boot up (after initial setup) was reasonably fast despite the 5400 rpm hdd. I've yet to install any games in the short time that I've had it but I'll post a decent review when I have more time.

Good luck to all those waiting for it you WILL NOT be dissapointed
Wow, I’m so jealous. Can’t wait to get mine. I’m gonna call them up right now but could you please provide some kind of proof that you got it from cdw and the date. Maybe just email if you don’t feel like posting it. gfr33man@hotmail.com, that would be awesome.

Yup that's what they told me after I ordered on 2/3. I decided to call around. Two different people at CDW told me 2/15. I cancelled the pcnation order and placed an order at CDW on 2/4. 2/15 is today. I got an estimate from CDW this weekend that I won't get it until 2/24 or maybe even 3/8. Luckily I got in on that brief newegg stock and might get it by tomorrow.

Mine is all packaged up and ready to ship out! It's coming from Newegg and should be here tomorrow!

Ah you guys are lucky... wish i didn't miss out on the newegg stock of them... At first pcnation told me mid to late feb. =(

how is an acer 8100 diff from the hp nc8200 series? how significantly diff are the gpu's? both are pci-express and have large hds and sonoma...but i personally love the way the hp nc8200 series looks. its a little lighter and more importantly it includes a 3 year warranty...guess HP has confidence in it.

Basically a great imager. I've read that Acronix (sp?) is good also, and free?

Maybe I'm missing something but is their any reson you can't just reformat the hard drives and when you reinstal windows set it as NTFS?

It looks to me the hp nc8200 has:

512mb vs 1gb
60gb 5400rpm vs 100gb 5400rp *16mb buffer* (not sure what hp has)
x600 vs x700 (big difference in video card)

got the info from http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1757556,00.asp

This month's paper issue of PC Mag has short reviews of 6 or so "Sonoma-Alviso" laptops, of which they picked the HP nc8200 as their favorite. ALL OF THEM, as I recall, had X600 graphics cards. "ZZZZzzzzzz." (Imagine the sound of snoring.) Some of the others were a Dell D610 and D810(?). No Acers.

Is x700 much better at games or should it be enough to get hp nc8200 with x600?
the thing is the hp nc8200 has a batt life of 5 hrs and it comes with a travel battery that may double that...also both should be avail in wuxga res soon...that'll be sweet!

Yeah I have noticed a lack of reviews for acer laptops in general on the net and in mags.... to me there is nothing that really comes close to matching the performance : weight : price ratio as the 8104 has to offer... I plan on getting the total coverage warranty with the laptop and pcnation offers it for 199 which I think is a deal incase something would happen with the lcd screen or the motherboard.

Patience my friend, patience

Not that you were meaning to threadcrap

But, the nc8200 is QUITE out-speced against the 8104. (512 MB RAM, 40 GB less HD, weaker video card (x600 vs x700), no DVD burner). Oh, and it also lists for $400+ more than the 8104.

Guess HP taxes you for the 3 year warranty and lower specs.

I would like to ask something for anyone here that already got the 8103/4 .

As the resolution is very high, text is probably small and also it'll be difficult to play games at the native resolution with a reasonable framerate (this is what I think, without seeing one personally).

How bad is the image if you use a lower resolution (let's say something near 1280 or 1024 pixels) ?

Can anyone take pictures of "non-native" resolutions (windows/text and/or gaming) ?

Thanks a lot!!
