There's an 8104 on eBay if you don't mind paying an inflated price, that is...

Needless to say I’m now number 2 on the list for the next batch but I guess I have to wait for that. Thx anyway. Actually, if it is all the same to you I wouldn’t mind seeing that picture so I know what I have to look forward too. Thanks again and sorry about the typo.
I've never posted a pic before so bare with me, and I hope this helps relieve a little tension with CDW.

I wouldn't buy from this guy!!! I originally purchased one of his Acer 8104's from him via Ebay and sent him payment via Paypal. I waited two weeks for him to send it out, and during the whole time he said paypal had frozen his account. I called Paypal and, while they couldn't give me details, they said they were "watching him for awhile". They ended up making him refund my money, and he wasn't upfront as to why he had to. I'm not too sure what the problem was, but it sucked waiting like that even though I had technically paid him for the laptop. Check his feedback and you'll see my negative feedback (under alexrud, should be first on the list).

EDIT: The bastard left me NEGATIVE feedback! I paid him 2 days after auction ended via Paypal ($2300 for the 8104), and I get negative feedback. How undeserving.

Wow axelrud, I was just about to pay him for the Acer 8104 when i read this, I saw your feedback but under it I saw;

Reply by streamline_systems: HAD A LIMITATIOM ON ACCOUNT(AUDIT FOR 2WEEKS TO VERIFY OUR COMPANY) CLEARED

And every other one gives him a great feedback and fast shipping, and he seems to be the only one who can fix my problem ( Get me that laptop between 24-28. February ) So right now im not sure what to do.

He did communicate with me the whole time, but he was never clear on why he was being audited. I'm not sure if it was because he didn't know why himself, he knew why and he wasn't being forthright, or what. I had no idea why either, so there wasn't much I could do. What angered me was the fact that I paid him for the laptop 2 days after the auction ended, but he refused to send out the laptop for almost 2 weeks. Paypal themselves told me that once I transfer the money to him it is technically paid for, and that I couldn't take back the money. I would email him if you are really interested, but find out what the deal is before you go for it.

I have asked him if it's 100% if he can send me the computer to my hotel, at the days I will be staying in Washington and he seemed posetive;;

THAT WILL BE FINE. IT IS GOING TO ON TIME IF PAYMENT IS RECEIVED ASAP.

THE SOONER THE BETTER.

THANK YOU

and the second email

YES, I’LL SHIP FOR YOU TO YOUR LOCATION IN DC TO YOUR HOTEL ROOM

Always writing in caps kinda spooks me .. But I'll think I have to go for it and take my chances. Either taking the chance, or pay $1200 more for it and wait until late march.

My only concern is the strange partitioning that Acer has put on the HD as a default. What is the best way to work around this?
post #793 of 1678
When i get mine, im just to completely blow away ALL partitions and create my own partition setup i do, and install my own copy of xp pro, etc...and load drivers from acer cd.

That's the same what I will do. Delete all partitioning and install mine xp pro, and then install the acer drivers.

No way I will use Fat 32 and that strange partitioning system that they have. But I order my 8104 and it's ready to be delievered, but I wont get it until 24. February ( When I go to Washington D.C. )

strange partitioning

Its not that bad. I always do two partitions if I have a single drive. One for OS and apps that hook deep into the OS and one for my data, homedir and apps that install themselves deep into the OS. That way I can reformat and resinstall without worrying about restoring my data. It also leaves me room to repartition and install linux without having to reinstall windows.

I did convert the acer partitions to NTFS, but as of yet have not re-installed windows xp.

FWIW, I am in love with this laptop. I wish it did not have that moldy green "tint"; I prefer black, but man does it perform well.
post #796 of 1678
On an 8000 I had I just converted the existing FAT32 partitions to NTFS ("Convert" command) and then extended the first into the second to create a single partiton ("DiskPart" command - "extend" option). Didn't need to re-install O/S or drivers. I left the hidden/restore partition there. Figured I could sort out that partition if/when I need the space. I re-arranged a few files that Acer put on there, but it was quicker than a clean install and no worries about missing drivers, install s/w or license keys. Understand that some people like to have it "just-so", though, and do a clean install.

Agree that separating data to 2nd partition is a good idea if you do regular re-installs.

Don't know if the 8100's are configured the same as the 8000's though (might have different partition types - some don't allow "extend").

(Disclaimer: did this a while back - details may not be accurate. Try at own risk. etc. etc.)

Ditto. Had "software Raid0" on my 8887. Worked great.

Just what is that mystery material encasing the 8104? Extraterrestrial, ultralight titanium alloy ... ... or plastic?

I received my 8104 at 9:30 this morning. It is awesome! I had issues with switching to a wide aspect that forced me to return my Dell 8600 but not with the 8104!

I have been loading and transfering files most of the day as I use this at my business and home.

I was #7 in the cue at PCNation so hopefully one of you that are waiting just "moved a little closer".

** I don't understand all the comments about the "greenish" color; I love the silver and I don't see green!

Gotta also love their E Recovery software; burned the image so effortlessly.

I am considering combining the two partitions and wiping everything for a clean install, but what about the Acer apps such as ePowerManagement and the drivers? Do they come on separate cd’s? I also think I read somewhere that if you combined the two partitions and converted to ntsf that restoring from the hidden partition no longer worked? I could be wrong but does anyone know for sure? Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the data on the hidden partition with a setup that you personally prefer and still make it work so that you could restore to whatever you put on there? Also could someone that is considering to wipe everything for a clean install do benchmarks with default factory setup and then after the clean install so we could see if there are any gains in performance? I would very much like to know if it is worth the extra trouble. If someone feels very ambitious could you check the claim that you get much longer battery life without SP2? If it drains 1 hour of battery life then I think I’ll try to dig up the old SP1.

Where is it possible to by a second battery? Think that's really clever especially when you're using the computer at school.. Any sites got a second battery for sale for the Acer 8104?
