Or are there cheaper versions of the 8100 that have slow memory? If you go to DDR2, you really need the DDR2 533 to make up for the latency.

Best non-DTR I can see right now.
DDR-II Ram at 533 MHz doesn't make up for the latency right now, but wait and see about Corsair DDR-II for lappys. Corsair usually makes pretty low latency Ram from what I hear.

Intel's chipset 915(P/GM/GV) can work with DDR2 533 or 800 (can have different sticks in slots) or with DDR 333 or 400 (should be paired). No wonder Acer has two models (512MB and 1GB) where they have two paired sticks (256x2 and 512x2). These are in fact DDR 333 (not DDR2) memory. Cheap. At least this is equivalent to DDR2 667.
so no acer comes with ddr 2? and if not does will it really make a diffrence?

First off, this is the largest notebook-community I have found until now. Kudos to the administrator and supervisors for keeping up the good work!
Concerning the TM 8100: I am truly impressed by the specs on this one. Only the design is lacking. When will these laptop-designers realize that light and silver colours wear and tear much faster than dark ones?

They come with DDR2. The specs you quoted were incorrect.

According to Hardwarezone HardwareZone the modilty 9700 = x600 and the x700 is alot better. I plan on buying the 8100 as soon as they become available. They are everything I want.

*Edit I love Donkeys

This is directly from the ATI website for the Mobility X700.

"YPrPb component output for direct drive of HDTV displays"

I wonder if the DVI to HDTV dongle will work?

New small review for the TravelMate 8100
http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles...cid=14&id=1395

That review says that the leather-like exterior is constructed entirely of metallic graphite gray polycarbonate plastic.
So is it some sort of metal finish that's good at spreading heat or just plastic?
That is a nice review one of the best yet.... did you see the 16mb buffer on the HD omfg that's awesome! That'll probable make up for the 5400 rpm speed and cut down on heat as well. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going 8104 shopping!!!!
Fixed.
Well I took the plunge and ordered the 8104 from CDW. I couldn't wait anymore and I trust that CDW is a good merchant to do business with. I also ordered a targus backpack and a Netgear 802g wireless router w/firewall. I regret not being able to order extra stuff like ac adapters batteries and such but I can get these in due time so I'm not too worried.
Please report what cdw said about when it will be coming in.
omg that review just made me came all over myself. and made me talk with bad grammar.

my f'ing Uniwill 258KA0 can't compete with this monster. and it weighs LESS (by a whole POUND!) my processing unit (3700+ AMD64) just can't compare with the power of this thing. My choice is definetely made. Thank god for IBP's 30 day return policy.

Yeah but of all the vendors I think I made a good sound choice and I'm paying by phone so I'm not worried. I was waiting around for a good named brand company like them to put it up for saleSince PC torque hadn't yet and they were my 1st choice. I had hoped to have been one of the first thousand people to order it this year so that I might get it this month (wishful thinking!) I realize how many of you are anxious to take the plunge so I'll post every detail CDW gives me.
Yeah! WHat a way to over come heat, pump up the buffer to 16MB! Wow!!! This lappy is getting more and more impressive!

Wow! Can't wait to see more info from a real user, rather than a bias company.

CDW is an excellent company to do business with. I've had great service from them.

I ordered one this morning from PC Mall and they stated I should have it by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. He indicated that they do have them in the warehouse, just can't ship overnight.

I will post a review when I receive it.
