No 8104 in the UK

AcerNotebooks (http://www.acernotebooks.co.uk/asp/p...rchFor=&PT_ID=) are now showing the 8100 seies. They claim to have the 8101 and 8103 in stock (and are the cheapest I've seen for those models), but don't list the 8104. When I phoned, they said they had no definite specs or dates for it yet!

But ShopAcer claim they're expecting 8104s on 23/2, and others are quoting 1/3 (though that always sounded like a guesstimate to me).

I agree

Acer has really hit a homerun with this one!

I have to agree. I've been using my 8104 since Monday of this week.
My only gripes so far are:

- touchpad does get warm which makes me wonder if it will be a failure point at some time.

- The tiny front panel microphone near the left side of the touch pad can get in a feedback loop with the front panel speakers. This happened to me and scared me to death. I keep the microphone muted just in case. It is really really LOUD when it happens.

Overall, its one of the best laptops I've used, and definitely the only sonoma laptop I've seen that meets my needs and is able to combine portability and battery life with functional gaming ability. It runs World of Warcraft, my current addiction, extremely well. The 8104 is a heck of a package for the price.

I just sold my Inspiron 8200 to a friend (I really enjoyed it) but this blows it away!

Haven't heard the hard drive yet! Great screen and no problems with the wide aspect that I had with the Dell 8600 that I had to return.

Even though I paid for next day by 3:00 Fed Ex it arrived at 9:30 am...keep an eye out!

You can use the same AC adapter from the Aspire 2000 and TM8000 series

When playing games that run at 640x480 is there any to make the monitor resize to the correct aspect ratio?

Like add black bars to the side or something like TVs?

Thanks.

Yes. Found some +VE feedback on the web, and reasonable price, so plumped for them and ordered an 8104 & extd warranty on Monday. Warranty arrived Tuesday.

Saw them post here today, and rang to check: told it had been sent yesterday, and would be here today. Later rang back to get tracking number, and eventually they got back to me admitting they'd made a mistake, and it wouldn't be with me until Monday. So I could've had it now if they'd not ragged it up. And it sounded like they might not have realised without my intervention, which is a bit worrying.

I guess I'll forgive them as long as it arrives earlyish Monday, but until it does I'll be anxious.

Go to Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button. Then select Displays tab and click on the Panel button. Uncheck "Scale image to panel size" That will do it for all applications that are not using "native" resolution of display. I'm not sure if tools like Ati Tray Tools or RadLinker allow to set this per application.

When anyone has the panel set (in ati control panel) to "scale image" and "expand while mainting aspect ratio" selected....and you try to run a game at 1024x768....is anyone have their screen be off center (shifted to the right)?

Thanks

Hey guys

Very excited to find this notebook... I was considering a ZD8000 ro a Sager 9860, but each is considerably more money, and are each considered jumbo notebooks. I am planning on using it to replace my Toshiba 1955, which is used mosly for development (.net) with some WOW and light 3d gaming.

Did I read right that you guys coaxed a 2300+ 3dmark05 out of this? The stock 9860 untweaked is within 500 points of that.

Other than having the utmost gaming performance, which I don't need (have an x800 pro 3.4GHz desktop) can anyone think of a reason not to jump on this versus the two others I mention above?

Thanks!

FWIW, I think the Intel wireless card is the source of heat at the touchpad. Wifi enabled, and pad gets hot. Wifi off and the pad cools down. The wifi card is directly below the touch pad.

It would be interesting to see if replacing the intel card with an older 2200 or other brand would lower the temp.

No coaxing in my benchmarks. Running VERY stock with A-V and all KINDS of stuff in the background.

Wiz33: thanks! I spoke to one Acer sales rep a few weeks ago and he said as long as it was in the TM series (not sure if he said 8000 or 8100) it would work.
