Hey, All,
I'm about to joint the Acer 8104 owner circle. Actually, I already tried once. Here's a hint for all: beware of RandomSource.com!!! They had 1 in stock, and I took a risk ordering. Then the following happened: 1. The card did not go through right away due to a large amount of purchase. 2. I called the credit card company and verified identity, after which the order went through and I was given a confirmation page. 3. Next day a cancellation email from RandomSource, "could not verify card" (mind you, the credit card people went with me through the purchase!) 4. A call to RandomSource, and in a very challenging tone I hear "We will not deal with you unless you present an AmericanExpress card". Wow, I didn't even realize what was that about, and I asked: "What is wrong with Visa Platinum from a [Name of major US bank]?". Anyway, I said, can I consider my order cancelled? -Yes, it IS cancelled. 5. A call to credit company: no, your available funds are reduced, because the payment went through, and we can give you the authorization number for that! 6. Couple more calls to RandomSource and credit card guys... 7. No laptop shipped, and I had to ask the credit card company to STOP the payment, as they explained to me that it is not being withdrawn by the merchant and will go through otherwise, as if the purchase has been made. Conclusion: I still have pending cahrges for TWICE the price of laptop, and no laptop. So, think twice before you order from them.
On a more related issue. Thank to all you guys who posted reviews and pictures. What I still think I am lacking, is more pictures of the screen in action (not screenshots from the laptop, just photographs of working screen). Could any of you post some more of those? Run something typical, that most people have, let's say MS Excel (this shows well how many cells can fit in the view), and then something colorful, like a DVD-movie full screen, step back with your camera and zoom-in (this will help avoid distortion), hold the camera on a tripod or some table (to avoid handshake) and zoom so that no outside areas are in (this will make camera's exposure be adjusted to screen itself), and make some direct and angled shots. Would very much appreciate. Thanks!
