Hey Guys,
So I've been thiking of upgrading my video card and have been reading the previous threads, went to gear shop, noticed it boiled down to mainly two options, nvidia go5700 or ati 9700. I've read about the motherboard issue which is probably why they want me to talk to a tech to see if I have the board that doesn't need to be shipped in for an add-on part? When I called the tech first mentioned the nvidia and with the mention of shipping on ati on their website being 3 weeks as opposed to no warning of that on nvidia I guess nvidia is what alienware would recommend?
In any case I'm wondering what you guys would recommend.
At the time I didn't have the tools to take the keyboard off and unscrew the memory plate, I'm guessing the motherboard number is there somewhere. By the way anyone know where? I'm curious to find out what motherboard version I have.
I'm guessing going nvidia maybe the best choice since;
1. no delay
2. no chance of sending in the lappy to depot (which from the horror stories I hear is always a good thing)
3. it's cheaper
4. it's been out longer than the ati 9700, from what I can gather from previous posts.
although with the ati there's;
1. more driver support it seems, including 3rd party drivers
2. better performance? dunno about this one, although I've been having memory blue screen troubles with my nvidia
3. seems lots of people want it so there must be a reason why its so sought after?
Please help, I've pretty much exhausted my online search for these answers and need you're guys opinions on the matter. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's had to address these issues/concerns lately.
Thanks
p.s. does 5500 == 766, on my lappy birth certification it says area51m 766, no mention of 5500 although i've hear references on this board and on the gear shop
