Type of Invertor to run 9860 on 12V

I tried the search couldn't find the answer.Would a modified sine wave type inverter run the 9860 or would it have to be a true sine wave($$$).
Either one,of course would have to be of sufficent power output.
Thanks

I would recommend a UL listed true sine wave invertor with at least a 5W max output. Nothing less for this beauty. But Im sure a modified sine would work, though I would not want to take a chance with a $3000+ DTR.

wouldnt be the max 5W barely enough to light up the status led's???
i thought the 9860 has around 180W power consumption.

yea.... my like 400w output barely powers my old stuff

I'm running my 9860 in the car using the $99 - 300watt inverter from Radio Shack.
No trouble yet.

I actually requested this type of info from Tech Support but never received a solid answer. It's like they don't want to tell you a specific "wattage".
So, I run a GX7/8790 and my power brick states
Output: 20v at 7.5amps.... If I am correct that equates to 150 watts. So one could assume a 150 watt inverter would be sufficient. I have also read that matching the required wattage with a similar wattage inverter is "most" efficient. In this case, I purchased a 300 watt pure SW inverter for my family truckster... Mainly due to not knowing if 150watts was the "max draw" possible for my GX7 or not.

If the 9860 has equal or so power brick specs - A 300 (minimum) watt inverter would be my recommendation. If nothing else, perform the math like I did above and purchase an inverter with twice the wattage output as your computation.

same here got also some no name 400w inverter (not from radio shack but some simular place) runs great powers my 2 9860's just fine gets a bit hot sometimes but i wired the thing straight to the battery, didnt trust the cigarette lighter on that one

There's no direct car power adapter available? I'm using a direct one for my system, although it's an ax7(4750).

I bought one along with my 9860. So yes it is directly available. i think it was $75.

I'm using a Belkin Model # F5C400 for my 4750.
Can be had for $50 @ Micro Ctr.
It has a constant 140 watt output, with a peak of 250 watts.
I connect it to my cars cig lighter.
It converts DC power to 110 Volt AC @ 60hz. The battery always charges to 100% when the puters on.
I always shut the puter off before I start the car.

Modified vs True sine wave

Thanks all,
The power requirement,300W,600W etc will be whatever the 9860 requires, from the specs.
Most computers will run OK on "modified" sine wave which are the cheaper inverters.
Some Laser printers require "true " sine wave.I don't need to power that from 12V.
It appears that the 9860 will run OK on modified sine wave.At present I am using a 1000W inverter,so I should have plenty of power, just wondering about the sine wave.
As an aside,********* claim to have a 12v adapter for $75.I asked PC Torque about one and they advised,(very promptly,BTW) that Clevo did not show any 12V adapter so who knows what ********* is using.
Thanks all
