8790 Falling Apart

First off, I love my 8790 never had a single problem with it since August when I recieved it, until recently when things just stopped working the same.

First thing to go wrong was the headphone jack. It no longer turns of the laptop speakers when the the headphones are jacked in unless they are at a certain point applying pressure to the left side of the jack. It is obviously a mechanical problem and I am planning on sending it back during summer break as I will still be under warranty.

But now when I return back to school I am getting artifacting and really high temperatures. The temperatures were on the rise for a while, but the artifacting in such games as FarCry and Vice City have just started... I have the updated bios and I am using the 4.12 Omega drivers... I was thinking that this might be a dust related issue that perhaps there is dust on the heatsink as many of you had said... I am just wondering if I open my machine does it void the warranty... and exactly how should I go about cleaning the heatsink and fans?

Thanks for you help.

you wont be voiding the warranty unless you break a seal that says you are doing so in the process. The only way you can break that seal is if you are trying to, so dont worry about it. manufacturers like to ve very straight forward about voiding warranties and such. you have to be trying to do so.

You can (and should) clean out your fans on the bottom. Use a vacuum cleaner or something or blow air through the vents, but stick a hairpin or toothpick into the vent to keep the fan blades from turning (this can damage the fans). And of course, do it only when the laptop's off.
