AMD 64 or PCI Express

Thread Starter
So it doesn't feel like the AMD 64 with PCI-E is going to be available soon enough for me to wait. Nor do I believe that I'll be able to afford it.

So what is the general opinion? Should I lean towards the AMD chip or go for the PCI-E card? I don't expect that I will be able to get a new system for at least the next three yrs, so I'm looking for something that is going to last physically as well as competitively.

Any opinions.

You can wait, I have a feeling they won't be that far behind. AMD doesnt seem to generate much hype about anything. They're kinda sneaky about all that stuff. How this "Turion" and "Lancaster" has been slowly leaking on the web. Then all the sudden BAM!!! Intel = OWNED!!! lol but seriously, I knew VERY little about AMD until coming and until The Master of 64 Bit, Snorre!, is able to provide terabytes of information about it! Ok, so let me stop rambling and say ask snorre.

The new chipset should be out by the end of February, maybe earlier. So it's not going to be that long of a wait, only waiting for them to adapt NF4 or K8T890 to a laptop chasis.

There is 2 Arima based AMD 64 + PCI-e, aswell as 2 MSI based AMD 64 + PCI-e notebooks already announced. Now, that means it is only a matter of time, and since they are announced the release is probably imminent... and next thing you know, they are all over. Just like with the initial wave of AMD 64 notebooks.

If you are going to keep it for at least the next 3 years, then by all means get an athlon 64 notebook, microsoft can't keep delaying winxp 64bit edition for another 3 years, and when it comes out you don't want to be left behind.

I second that. 64 bit is the eventual future and having an upgradable PCIE gpu will extend the gameing life of your laptop a few years.
