anyone else notice that their media readers are only performing in usb1.1 mode? they are no where as fast as they could be... is this a driver issue or does it go deeper than that?

Well if it is working at all it is most likely just a software issue (driver).

If you have a USB 1.0 device connected it will drop to the lowest speed (1.5Mbps).

Also, the controller built into the flash card operates and limits the reader to a certain speed. You more than likely are using a cheaper flash card.

I have never had any issues with Windows XP SP2 on my M6805.

The media reader on my m6811 (purchased in Oct 2004) already died. I've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them numerous times. Nothing! I've tried both compact flash and SD cards. Neither work. USB 1.1 would certainly be better than dead. After a fresh install of XP Home or just a simple system restore I insert the card, Windows begins to recognize the device, but it just hangs and never completes the installation. I decided it wasn't worth sending in to be fixed at this point. Anybody else's media reader go out???

im using 60x sd cards, 256 and a 512, and with a real usb2.0 media reader plugged into an available usb2.0 slot, even with a usb2.0 hub, it works correctly, all this with having a usb mouse plugged in as well.

from what i can tell, the usb card reader is independant of the usb controller that controls the 4 ports.

try testing it urself sometime.

If use the cameras built in USB 2.0 or the internal CF reader to read card directly, I get about the same read speeds. I have a slow card anyway but tested about .8 megs per second from DPReview.com

I did have an issue, once, when internal media drivers went postal and insisted all slots were filled and was trying to poll them in sequence, even after restart. I think a restore fixed that one but no problems during the last 11 months.

The last time I disassembled my m6805 I noticed some pretty shoddy soldering work on the Neodio media reader. I noticed my compact flash reader was only half-soldered to the media card/board. It could be that. I am pretty sure I will need to resolder mine in the near future or send it back in for repair.

Media Reader Problems

I have a similar problem. Hopefully reviving this thread will render some additional support.

I just received my M6811. When I insert media into the SDIO/Memory Stick slot I get a message saying that the device is unrecognized or has malfunctioned.

I just wanted to give everybody an update on the case of the sick M6811.

I have noticed a couple of additional problem: (1) Every now and then the system would shutdown when powering on [Potential Heat sensor problem?] (2) The Broadcom wireless does not enable properly, (3) One instance of the sound not working and having to reboot, and (4) The Media Reader is bad.

I talked to Emachines today and the unit is still under warranty and they issued me a RMA and are shipping me a FedEX shipping box with a 7-10 day door to door turn around.

2 and 3 are most likely driver issues. And in the case of number 2, it might have something to do with the wi-fi option in the bios as well

My M6811 card reader did the same, not working with a usb not recignised. I bought a new one from ebay for 15.00 and now it works fine.
