Manchi, that's not always the case. Many Australian distributors stock WSXGA+ (1680x1050) models of Asus M6 series notebooks. Smilepak, I'd be sure to ask your retailer for the exact screen resolution before purchasing, as the specifications can often be misleading or incorrect (usually as a result of being cut and pasted from another website).
In answer to this thread's topic, I suggest the Asus chassis over the Acer. Weight, build quality, international warranty are all in Asus' favour. I am also inclined to favour the mimimalist industrial design of the Asus over the aesthetically questionable Acer.
If long battery life is an important consideration for you smilepak, this makes the decision easier: the Asus M6 can accept a second battery in its modular bay, taking the total runtime up to about 6-7 hours.
Assuming you can wait a few weeks, however, we may start to see some more significant price drops on older model notebooks as the new Acer and Asus Sonoma lines start to trickle into stores.
