5660 & 8886 with 3D applications

I'm about to buy mobile alternative for my work with some 3D applications like 3D MAX, Maya 4.5 etc. I know couple of mobile workstation as "Compaq EVO 800W" with GPU ATI Mobile Fire GL,
and "Fujitsu Celsius mobileH" with N Vidia Quadro. They are quite
expensive but if you take a look at specifications they use the same hardware configuration as "Sager" and similar laptops from Clevo
except GPU. Did anybody test any 3D software on Sager's laptop?
How does it work?

I have used bryce 5 in my 8886, and it renders it almost no time (with textures), you can have more tests because ill be getting 3dsmax in a few days.

I am heavy into 3D work and I must say my 5660 is a great dev platform. I personally use Lightwave 7.5 and it runs great. I also do DirectX programming and the graphical results have been stunning. I haven't seen any glitches in OpenGL or DirectX yet. The standard driver set seems to be pretty solid. You couldn't say this about ATI drivers in the past, but they seem to have gotten things together now.

Best to you!

Thanks Dragon! You say "standart driver". Does it mean some enchanced drivers are avaliable in ATI's download page?
Because i have experience in the past. I used driver from Windows package and then i've found enchanced version on ATI
home page. After installing this version, i got more option in advanced settings menu and my applications run faster

I think by standard drivers he means the ones that come on the cd with the system and that are developed by Sager (correct me if I am wrong of course :-)). You can get the latest 6218 drivers from certain sites on the internet, it's somewhere in the forums here if you look, and if you'd like I'm sure someone can find it (I'd look for you if I wasn't on dialup at my grandparent's house, lol). They are more recent and have shown improvements in benchmarks across the forum.

Beebster is correct, I was referencing the drivers that come on the Cd with the unit. I have the new drivers, but haven't installed them yet as I want to get all my apps, games, etc. loaded and tested. I will then run exhaustive benchmarks with the standard drivers, then burn another backup of the machine and finally load the new drivers and repeat the tests. Because of my game development I must have solid drivers even if I have to give up a few frames per second. If the new drivers prove to be stable for me, they will stay, otherwise .

OK! But what i really want to know, does ATI provide their original upgraded/enchanced/ drivers for M9000?
And one more thing about 8886... It has TV tuner and both of'em have TV output, does it working with PAL or just NTSC?

The output works with either. The 8886 TV Tuner only works with one though. It coems default with NTSC and can be special ordered with PAL for the same price.

Just a quick question, Adam. If I changed the 8886 output to a PAL one, will this affect normal DVD playback on the LCD monitor in anyway using software playback programs?

There shouldn't be any affect on it that I'm aware of.
All you have to do is change the display properties of the TV output.
You would go to Display properties/settings/advanced displays, click "TV", then click "format" and select a country.
