Hi all,
My first post on this forum (just found it!!
). Here's a review I recently posted on another site. This laptop may have already been reviewed but it can't hurt to post my take anyway.
FYI, I'm a long time PC enthusiast and professional. I've owned several laptops (ranging from top-end Toshiba and HP models to used/older Dell and Gateway notebooks). So basically I feel I'm qualified to share my $0.02

Purchased yet another laptop recently and promised a short review once I had spent some time using it.
I have the 80GB model with wireless G and a DVD burner. Appears to write blank DVD +R media at 4x and -R at 2x. CDs are 24x. Not too bad for an after-thought item.
It comes equiped with an Athlon XP-M processor. The multiplier's unlocked so it changes speeds quite a bit, but looks like 1.66ghz is the tops. I think they rate it at 2200+. Not bad for basic use.
The really sweet part with this laptop so far has been the size, or lack of. At just over 4 pounds it's really a remarkable machine. Have had no performance issues in photoshop or internet use. Haven't tried gaming because I can't imagine wanting to game on a 12.1" LCD unless I was REAL bored.
The wireless range is fine. Touchpad has a nice feel and response.
I played a DVD for a while, and was impressed with the LCD's quality and the small speakers did fine (just loud enough to cut through ambient noises). Surprisingly clear.
Battery life is fair, averaging 2 hours with regular use. Says 2.5 hours but I don't see it. There's a way of calibrating the battery with the laptop's bios, but I can't see that helping with a new battery (should already have been calibrated out of the box). [I have since calibrated the battery and fan with no gains in battery life/longevity]
If you have any questions fire away. For under $1,000 after rebates from Circuit City, this was a great deal. I highly recommend this for business use. There's nothing cheap about this laptop despite its great price tag.
