Inspiron 8600 Mobo in Inspiron 8500 Chassis?

Hey guys,

I am getting an Inspiron 8500 Chassis where the guy spilled water in it. I get the following: The Chassis, motherboard, keyboard, and wsxga screen. He says the screen is good. So the question is: Is it possible to put the 8600 Motherboard into these Chassis, and if so, is there some special modifications to do it? I also pm'd DELL=Machina to get some more insight. Any info you guys have would be great. I got an extra CD/DVD Combo Drive lying around as well as an extra Hard drive so this could possibly work out pretty well. Also, I DID try to do a search on these forums and didn't come up with a lot. I'm hoping someone here knows something about this. Thanks

the i8500 chassis is the EXACT same thing as the i8600 chassis, so you wont have any problems.

The only difference is it says 8500, instead of 8600 on it.

I beg to differ as I 'owned' a lemon I-8500 before receiving I-8660 refurbished, there is a track stick in the 8500 along with all the ports that the I-8600 doesn't have. The I-8500 did not have the Intel Pentium M option, I had their 2.2GHz P4 banias chipset, Upgrades were SVGA+, 40GB, and 512RAM $350 cupon and $75 cupon if I signed up with DSL.

I would check to make sure the keyboard still works if something was spilt. Even if you have to replace the keyboard, you can get them for like $20.

uhmm, I suppose you mean the 8600b mainboard. I think that the 8600c mainboard lacks the APR connector and the serial and printer ports, and it doesn't have the IRDA neither. Or are all of them available in the mainboard as connectors?!?
