I just bought a P35 Satellite from Costco. I put in another 512 of ram in it right away. I noticed when running adaware that there are 45 running proccesses. I wonder if I can shut some of these down, to help the computer run a little faster. By now you've figured out that I not a computer wizard. But I can get around ok in XP, I'm much better in Windows98se, but I know those days are over.
So please let me know what I can safely shut and how to do it if it is outside of the normal msconfig route or add/remove programs route. I shut down msmsgs which I think is the MS messenger and maximizer_startup. I also removed some of the advertising crap they load on every new computer, that really annoys me. It's not enough that you are buying their hardware, do they have to include two or three internet trials?
I love the computer, it works well with the D-Link wireless router I have at home. I did speed up my sons XP desktop by killing and removing some junk, but it was a somewhat painful proccess of trial and error. I hope I can take the easy route this time.
Thanks, Andy
