XBOX Voltage Question

Hey guys,
First of all, I know that this is an Alienware forum but I have no other place to go so I figured I'll post my questions here and maybe I'll get lucky...Anyway, I bought an X-Box from the US and I went back to my sweet little home in Israel where we use 220v...Now, after playing with it for 30min my voltage converter exploded and damaged my X-Box, I just got it from the technician today and I was wondering if any of you guys know if I can convert the machine from the inside to work with 220v ? I don't want to use a regular converter 'coz I had a BAD luck with it !!
One more thing, I read that the X-Box is a very powerfull machine that I can use as a regular PC, also I read that there is a chip that I can install that makes it even more powerfull, Does any of you know what it is and what it will do to my machine ?
The reason I'm asking these questions is only because I realized today that it uses an Intel Celeron 733MHz and it is NOT very powerfull as they claim.
I also read today that if you connect a several X-Boxes togather or modify it in some way you will get a 10Ghz processing power (!!!!!!!!) thay called it "14 node cluster", anyway, English is not my primery language so I may missunderstood the point, I'm putting the link here, may one of you will be kind and help me understand it a little bit batter ?!
Thanks so much.

Thanks again.

well chipping a videogame console is illegal thus I doubt that it will be tolerated to discuss about this in these forums...

about the internal converter: I don't know sorry... buy a very high quality external converter?

about the power of the xbox: You got to understand that it's not meant to use as a computer but it can be. It is a very powerful videogame console because the cpu, the ram, the gpu and everything in the box is DEDICATED to the game you are playing. Putting a PC OS on it will let you work with it as with a normal computer, with all ressources shared between the different processes and all but you won't get the same 'power'. Power about a videogame console's hardware is a relative word. ^^

yea because think about it what does the ram need to store? ur next map and what your doing... the cpu has to load and run just the map your on and going to the graphics just has to draw that so all the power avalable is going straight to powering the game so of course itll be a more "powerful" computer in the sense that all the cpu is powering that if you could somehow get a game to load in dos bypassing your OS then it would run tremendously

can you upgrade the celeron to a different processor?

I don't know if it is possible, I just heard that the X-Box has the ability to become a realy cool machine...
And about the chip, I had no idea that it is illegal, can someone explain to me please why it is illegal and what does it do to the X-Box ??!!

I have heard the same but the problem is getting the correct info from people who have done it...as to the 220 change..wow, I have no idea but I thinking that a top of the converter would be safest? Do they not sell XBox over there? I think the issue with it being illegal would have the to do with copyrighting laws but your in Israel.. how would that law be inforced but I am sure of this..you could never get a warrenty repair or replacement once you open that baby up and "operate" on it..good luck

go to xbox-scene.com

they can answer any and all questions about modding the xbox. the chip you are talking about is called a modchip. they usually run around 40-70 bucks for a decent one. there is a way to convert your powersupply to 220volts. you need to find an xbox modsite in the UK or somewhere in europe because most us xbox sites dont have them.

Modding the xbox doesnt just have to do with instaling ILLEGAL (:wink modchips, it has to do with painting the xbox, puttling leds in the controller ports, and side vents, taking out the green jewel, putting a hole in the plastic behind it, and making it clear, etc

chck out the site and u will learn a LOT from it. i do modding for money, so if u see me on those forums (same username), shoot me a pm
