I just got my thermaltake external enclosure and put in my NEC 3500 dvdrw and plugged it in. But i keep on getting this notice. I'm already running WinXP service pack 2.

Try a different USB port. Also, make sure you don't have any other USB devices plugged in. Usually, if there are four ports, they are in pairs of two, using two hubs. If you plug a mouse in the hub (a low speed device), the hub can't accomodate high-speed devices.
If all this fails, try plugging it in another computer, with the same software. If the problem persists, maybe you have a faulty enclosure.

Orestes82's suggestion is good.

However, let's ask a simpler question... Does your computer have usb 2.0 ports or 1.1 ports? If it's 1.0 or 1.1, you'll always get this message.

The drive case is 2.0 (hi-speed), but it thinks it's plugging into a usb 1.0 or 1.1 port. Thus the error message.

There is a USB 2.0 driver update available for windowsXP that was NOT included in SP2.

Check this, it may be the solution to your problem:

::edit:: You may have better luck just searching for "XP usb driver" on microsoft's site, and find a download that way.

I was gettin the same problem after refformating with my Ipod. I just ignored the problem and it worked anyways. I recently updated the driver though from the IBM website. Now I don't get the message anymore. You're best bet would be to find an updated driver for it.

i had the same issue on my uniwill model.....go into control panel/system/hardware/device manager and look for the yellow exclamation point by the USB bus. Click on it and have the pc install the driver automatically. It should solve the problem.

your computer is cheap and doesn't have usb2.0 ports, i think you NEED use2.0 to burn cds cuz usb1.1 does not have the bandwidth

OR

you have sp2 without the manufactures usb2.0 drivers
