do a google search for cpuid. it's a program that will tell you which processor you have. it'll tell you stepping also i believe... you can use that against amd's charts to tell you what proc you have.

This machine is a powerhouse for music production! If only I could throw in a 1 GB ram module without trouble (agent9, let us know what happened with your ram installation).
You did not want to use the built in LINE-IN for the laptop?
What's the difference compared to the INDIGO card?

2.The adjusted color setting will be helpful:
Color: Desktop / Full Screen 3D
Gamma: 1.32 / 1.60
Brightness: -90 / -90

Brightness: 0%

Hue: 0
Gamma: 0.85

The sound card provides NVIDIA ASIO is awesome.
just my choice
how did you come up with the COLOR config?
they do look better, thanks!

By the way, what are the ASWL2k.exe and ATKOSD.exe processes? I believe they are ASUS programs. ,but when running, the ASWL2k.exe process can suck a lot of resources.
ATKOSD.exe controls your function keys/shortcut buttons... and it's responsible for showing you what happens when you use those functions. OSD = On Screen Display, I think... e.g. the brightness, volume... you get the picture. I'm sure you've seen it before.

I'm not sure what that other thing is...

Finally, I got theh latest ATI 5.4 driver from MS for M11

I remember last time i got a ati 5.4 driver from microsoft for m11,but there seems something wrong,it recognized my m11 as mobility 9600. and has crash issue
but this time, it seems to be a newer one, even newer than ATI official 5.4,because it shows the OpenGL version =2.0.5014 but the ATi official is 2.0.5012
it shows mobility 9700 and work fine here(with ATI tray tools 1.0.2.600)

I put it into my www.yahoo.ca

ASWL2k.exe is the ASUS WLAN (WiFi) Utility, which was discovered earlier to use a lot of resources. Please check one of my earlier posts on how to solve the problem.
Hi,Agent 9
I'm sorry to tell you that the wifi doesn't work after uninstall the utility but keep the driver.. there 's no way to detect the the signal
I have to reinstall the whole one to get it work( it's about 11Mbps in school, quite good)

my method:
a. install all, reboot, choose ASUS wireless configuration insted of microsoft
b. set radio off in ASUS WLAN control center, set ASWLSVC service to manual insted of automatical
c. uncheck center.exe in msconfig
optional: disable wifi in BIOS,disable wireless connection in network connection

Eable wifi:
enable ASWLSVC service, run ASUS WLAN control center, set radio on

Thanks agent9,

What so you mean slove it ? do i want to uninstall it (wifi) i use it though?

I read all these 10 pages but all you guys are way more knowledgeable about computers then me...I am really confused. I want to keep the wifi but it sucks a lot of resources. What to do.?

Also what do i want to install on this computer? I just got it like 3 weeks ago, but spent the last 3 weeks playing and winning my free copy of far cry..(wow very addictive). So now i want to install all the updates...(drivers, motherboard, whatever else these is to do)..

What should i install.to protect this baby and make her run better? She is my first lappy and i want to love her good. Right now i have NOD32, MS antispyware, Everest Home addition, some other program with a dog that keeps bad things out, forgot what its called, and some hard drive cleaner program that i tired last night and dont really now what i was doing or erasing!(yikes)?

Anyway thanks for all the help. Read this forum for like a year and a half before biting the bullet and ordering the Katana form vicious pc.

STF,

Virus scan: AVAST or AVG , or Both (free editions)
AD-ware snoopers: AD-AWARE by lavasoft.com, SPYBOT
updates: widows updates
desktop looks: aquadock.com, other tweaks

adjust your LCD using ADOBE GAMMA , it will improve the true color

get a separate browser, mozilla.com has some good options

get the latest drivers that will work for your hardware

what else?
depends on what else you need and want.

Has anyone been able to put their hands on a release of XP64? @ my office we have an MSDN Subscription and I downloaded it last night. This apparently is the full blown retail version that will be shipping later this year. Is ASUS going to support it or is it all just a pipe dream?
holding out on the xp64 thing for a few months - god knows how many stability issues it'll have, and the driver support right now doesn't seem to be too great :P

let us know if you give it a go, and any resulting problems you have

You can check the date on your drivers, see if it is older or new.

Another thing is the BIOS update,
i updated mine to the 0207 version, you can check which bios you have thru the setup before windows logs-on or you can download CpuID and see the specs you have (if you don't have it yet)

And mahe sure you have PowerGear installed so you can control the laptop performance.

i think that's it for now..i'll post if i remember anthing else or if i do anything else with my lappy

Oh you should try using winamp, it has InternetRadio and Internet TV, nifty.

You guys are making this way too complicated...

Here's the breakdown. There are two parts to ASUS' WLAN Software - the driver (which allows the card to run) and the utility (which controls connections, etc). The ASUS WLAN Utility is the problem a lot of have found (causes abnormal use of resources). I recommended earlier, as I will again, to remove the Utility. Since WinXP already has a built in WLAN Utility, and is much easier to use, this will cause no problems. The problem will only arise if your dirvers get unintalled too...

For Win2K, I'm not sure how to exactly go about this, but there is a generic way to make sure any supported OS works without the ASUS Utility (except maybe 98, but what the hell were you thinking with that anyways?). If for some reason when you uninstall the WLAN Utility (Control Panel >> Add / Remove...) the drivers are not there on restart (and do not get reinstalled automatically by Windows), the reinstall the Driver/Utility package again, and track down which files are being used for drivers (Under Device Manager / Network Adapter / Properties) and make copies of them. Now uninstall it again, and on your next restart when it asks for the driver files (or if it doesn't, just install the WLAN card under device manager) point it to the folder in which you copied the WLAN Driver files to. This is simple, so please don't make it harder than it needs to be.

As always, please update your other drivers as follow:

ATI Driver: CD
MAIN INF Drivers: nvidia.com >> nForce United Driver Package (UDP)
Sound Card: Not necessary, with above installation of UDP
WLAN: CD, but uninstall ASUS WLAN Utility from control panel (fixes problem and driver files remain - only way to accomplish that)
ATK0100 ACPI Utility: CD
56K Modem: CD
LAN: CD

To make sure that the WLAN Utility Issue is gone, you can check Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DLT) and check under the Processses tab for ASWL2k.exe, IT SHOULD NOT BE THERE!

Note to those who have posted on this thread trying to help people... Only post if you know exactly what issue people are discussing and if you know the exact solution (meaning you have had a similar problem and fixed it). We appreciate your help, but please do not post unless you know what's going on, it only wastes people's time and sanity.

If you have any more questions, please ask. As always, good luck!
