so,Agent9,have you ever tried the wifi with your method?is it still workking?
ASWL2k.exe is easy to be disabled in service
utility can be disabled in msconfig, and easy to be enabled (by open the utility again)
Ya, if you can disable in msconfig, that works too. Mine is just a more permanent solution. And yes again, this worked for me and a few other people.

I leave and everyone panics... Sorry guys, I'll be sure to check back more often.
to stop ASWL2k.exe from running, i download this software called Program Sleuth. You can see what hidden programs are running and stop them with a click. I also got that PowerNow dashboard thing and you should see the spikes you get from that ASWL2k.exe thing(which by what you guys say it has something to do with the WIFI?) Do you think this ASWL2k.exe is why my laptop seemed only to last like 45min unplugged?

Interesting troubles about this Asus A4K laptop which I am still thinking to buy. I had a Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo D 7820 Laptop which had superb performance compared to those days Desktops however it had overheating problems which required cleaning off the air vents on monthly bases but these are small problems that can be solved.

My main worry about Asus A4k is that its 64 bit Windows compability that i was reading cos it seems like other problems can be solved with simply installing drivers on right order and un installing the WIFI utility.

Also.

Does it have shut downs after 4 hours of Doom3 for instance?
Does the GPU can keep itself in acceptable heat levels?
Are there 3rd party hardware for this laptop for extra cooling?
Does it run blazingly fast with AthlonXP 64 3400+
Finally How difficult it would be for me to run 512 x 2 memmory sticks......

My brother owns an IBM and a Toshiba and they seem to run flawless however they cost much for less performance...

I live in Turkey and this machine is sold around $1500... should i smuggle one instead of buying one from here...

Thanks for reading...

If you're looking to save money, get the "Built On Asus" version that is also customizable. ASUS Ensemble notebooks are still nice, but usually a little more pricier and no hardware customizations available, but they boast a 3 year warranty through select resellers (us being one of those).

As for your questions:

1. No, as long as you follow the recommended drivers, everything will be fine.
2. Yes, fairly well for a 9700. Clocking it to it's normal stock speed will bring up the heat, but I will need other users to comment on their experiences (we do not overclock our products for customers - voids warranty, etc...)
3. Not currently, wouldn't expect it either. Custom mods maybe, go Electrical Engineers!
4. YES! We sold a Z80K with the following config: AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1GB PC3200 Corsair... I played HL2 on it until I had to deliver it to our customer.
5. Obviously without any problems (look at Ans. 4)

I personally love both IBM and Toshiba... they the only real laptop manufacturers in my opinion (even they outsource too, but their designs are what count, EE design is so much better). We resell ASUS and I would compare them on the same quality, performance, reliability and competitive pricing.

ASUS for the win.

BIOS Ver.0207

CAUTION!
If you have never updated a system BIOS before, please read the following carefuly!

It says DOS (which is usually how us veterans flashed our BIOS), but you will actually FLASH (or update) your BIOS in WinXP...

Download the Flash Utility and install...(http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Z80K..._2K_041001.zip)

Then Download the BIOS (compressed in a ZIP file) and unzip that somewhere (http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Z80K/Z80K0207G.zip)

Once you're this far, please make sure you have nothing else running and you have your AC Adaptper plugged in!

Run the Winflash Utility and open up your BIOS file. Flash away.

Reboot after it's finished, and - if all's well... you should see WinXP again.

Thnks for the quick response agent9.

I would like to purchase my Asus A4k from you guys but then they will charge me here at the customs for the tax anyway. So it seems like since I am experienced with computers for a loong time, I will have no problem fixing these little issues on this machine. It seems like this is the laptop to go. I will buy this machine if i can be sure of this 64 XP or Longhorn issue will be solved.

I will contact ASUS later today (when the sun comes up, heh) and see what the status is on the 64-bit enable issue...

WinXP x64 final is out...
I already got winxp64,win2003v64 and longhorn64, but I am afraid my laptop won't get support shortly
post #177 of 228
Ciao,

based on what Asus reported, win64 will be supported, if ever, not before its official release. So, now xp64 is out, so we can only wait, see and hope...
