Ciao,
i have tried win xp pro 64bit final on my a2k laptop... it don't work!

I hope on fw upgrade from asus... for fix local apic's bug.

On my site i have placed a short photo guide for remove keyboard and make ram upgrade on this laptop. If you want, place any comment on main page > news section... www.vairob.com/a2k-z80k_ram_upgrade

Thank you

thanks a lot for your review.
comparing with my Z80K, everything is the same. except --there is no heatsink compounds on the top of the GPU.I realize that should be the reason why the crash happens when playing a heavy OpenGl game.--the GPU is overheat.so.
1. smear a thin layer of heatsink comp on GPU
2. move the memory module from slot 1 to slot 2 (away from CPU/GPU)
works!

i would suggest artic silver 5 as the thermal paste.

I must translate in English the book review...

Someone has tried ATITool? Which succeeded frequencies to catch up?
y.I tried the ATITool 0.023. on z80k core>=500 mem=189 (default:390/175)
so,Vairo, what's the default values of m11 on a2k?

There is no heatsink on the GPU in the Z80K!? I'm concidering getting the Z80K but not too sure after hearing about that. Does heatsink comp on the GPU help it any? Doesn't it run stable ASUS factory down clocked though?
At stock settings I have absolutely no problems with mine, and I have a DTR processor in it, not the mobile version...it does not do well with overclocking though...
no,z80k has heatsink for GPU.but the heatsink compound (i mean- thermally conductive compounds )is missing in my z80k,maybe just unlucky.and the compound helps a lot,it is running stable even overclocked to 500/185.

Is it easy to remove GPU heatsink in the Z80K and put thermal compound and then put it all back together? How is heatsink attached to the GPU though? I'm about pull the triger and get the Z80K. I really want to avoid widescreen so the sager 4750 is not an option. I will get the Z80K with the 3400+ 62w CPU, it would be a nice bonus to be able to clock the GPU back up to stock. What is the stock clock in MR9700?
yes,it's easy.but
1.there is no evidence shows all the z80k has compound missing problem, maybe just my case.still need more proof on that.i don't recommend to do that untill crash happens frequently.(a special game -airstrike II is free to download for crash testing purpose, because my z80k has no problems on other games,ie farcry,nfs7,Flight Simulator 9...,except airstike,it's a heavy opengl game)

As I understand it there is no "stock" speed for an MR9700. There is an acceptable range for the card to be running at tho. I forget the numbers... someone here posted them a while back.

Default for my a2k is 390/180 . Atitool find ram limit at 210MHz... for gpu i stopped the program at 480MHz.

When i play i set cpu freq. at 1,2GHz with rmclock (for fan cooler noise)... Need for Speed Underground 2 work great at maximum details (no AA)!

thanks.I saw an Ad:
A2K
128M ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700
( Overclocked to 450MHZ )
so, but not showing the mem frequency.(that's a main point).
based on your report,a2k seems exactly as z80k.so,I will fix the freq at 480/180.
I am still looking for a bios editer on m11

What is the stock clocked Z80K 3DMark01 score and what is it @ default 450/200(180)?

Zuke Computers is offering Windows XP Pro 64 bit as an OS option on their Z80K installed for $149. I sent an email to them to see if they have XP 64 running on the Asus Z80K. I'll let you know what they say when I receive a reply. They primarily sell through Ebay.

I received a reply to my request as to how Zuke Computers were running WinXP x64 on the Z80K and they stated that they were not able to run it on the Z80K and would remove the option of having the WinXP x64 installed. I also received a reply to my tech support request from Asus about fixing the problem. Their reply, "Unfortunately, we don't have any plan in the near future."After years of buying Asus motherboards and many Asus video cards, I am starting to consider buying from other manufacturers.
Recently, my 4 month old Asus A8N-SLI motherboards chipset fan died. I sent in for a RMA. They want me to send in my motherboard and they will repair or replace it. They don't offer advanced replacement (like Maxtor). I work from my desktop, I can't do without it for two weeks!!! I have read many posts from users complaining about the fan on their A8N-SLI dying. It seems that Asus's quality and control is fast going down hill.
Who ever heard of designing a laptop around a 64 bit processor that won't run a 64 bit operating system? Something is wrong with this picture.

??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????

SO what the &**^*$%## is their AMD "64" good for now?
That sucks...one of the reasons i bought this lappy is to be able to install or even try how the Win XP "64" feels...and now we can't use it for that??

Oh man...that sucks big time.
