I9300 release supposedly 2-24-05

I called sales, they had no info., they transferred me to tech support and the guy first said that it is already available to buy. I said no it's not available anywhere I can find, and he kept saying that according to his records, that it should be. He put me on hold and came back, and said that according to the scheduled release it is 2-24-05. I asked if it will be pre-orders or will it be ready to ship, and he said that it will be ready to ship then.

I also asked about vid. cards and he said it would have two card options:

ATI X300= up to 128mb
Nvidia 6800= up to 256mb

so looks like it shouldn't be to much longer, but longer than I wish. Maybe we can keep squeezing more info. out of them!

I suppose I can put hold onto my I8600 for one more month.

Dell never ships on release date. It always goes into production, boxing etc and is usually a week out on delivery. (longer on newly released systems).

It's anyones guess as to when the 9300 will be released. I certainly wouldn't listen to a tech guy or a sales guy. We'll know when it pops up on the website I guess. Thats how it usually goes with dell. I'm just disapointed it didn't come out @ the launch of sonoma/alviso last week!!!

I realize that it never ships on the actual release date and that it has to be built!
The point of that statement was that apparently it the systems will be ready to be built, and not just a preorder then. I suppose I meant ready to be "built" on that date, not "shipped". That is what I meant, just wrote it different.

I'm not saying that this has any truth to it whatsoever, simply that this is what the guy said. I know from experience that you can't listen to ANYONE when it comes to this stuff, but I would listen to a sales or tech guy over other sources such as forum members "inside scoop" which are hardly ever true. Notebookreview.com had it for January, then when January passed, they now have a "?" now. hmmmm

I E-mail Dell today asking about the release of the 9300, and they sent me back a vary ambiguous E-mail.

I contacted dell tech support on the phone once more:

he was reluctant but I got the following info. before getting off the phone: It will have the WUXGA and WXGA+ options same as 9200.
RAM will be DDR2 400MHz, with the option of 533MHz DDR2
Processor is like what was already talked about before, from 1.6 - 2.1

I then logged on to tech support chat:

The were VERY reluctant, saying they could not discuss anything until it is posted on dell.com.
They did state that the release would be 2-24-05, which matches up with the first tech phone guy.
They did also state that it would be a glossy screen like the 700m

Once again, I am not stating these things to be true, just telling others of my encounters with Dell, so take with a grain of salt. But it does look promising that a couple of different Dell people have stated the same release dates, so maybe that is true??

fishpro6 - that is a typical email that dell sends out when you ask about products not yet available. I'm guessing that the i9300 will ship with GeForce 6800 Go with 256mb GDDR3 memory and a boosted core speed compared to the Sager 9860's. It so happens that Sager is shipping the 9860 with that video card in February.

How about some news on something with a more modest 15.4" screen and a top of the line graphics card combined with the new Pentium M processors + chipset?

hmm this is very interesting! I have just returned my 9200 as I was not happy with the LCD. If this statement is correct then the 9300 may look very good as the 700m apparently has a gorgeous glossy screen. Somehow though I doubt it very much as it is MUCH easier to use the same screens given how similar the 9200/9300 are in everything else.
That would be great if DELL switches to the more glossy screen type - such as with Sony laptops. I am still psyched to get a I9300 - but realize it may be a while.

Except when you want to use it outside. Then it is useless.

Anyone know if there is some type of antiglare filter for this laptop available? Are others using it outside?

cheers,

wow, this would mean releasing the notebook a month and a half after intel's announcement. so much for leading the pack.

The glossy screens work better than the matte screens outside, too. They are brighter, which is the problem with outside, because of the contrast with the screen brightness and the brightness of big yellow.

Dell rarely leads the pack. They normally wait for a market is profitable before getting into it.

that is almost word for word what a sales guy told me when I called to ask about the release of the 9300 about a week ago So what you say makes sense.
The 'glossy' screen is supposed to be better outside, because it's brighter. I think you guys are confusing glossy with reflective.

And those nushields crap wouldn't help with glare... infact they make it worst, because the plastic is very reflective.

With these options, it looks like the i9200's EOL is gettiing close. At the very least, I would expect the price will drop like a rock. Maybe the i8600 will outlive it.
Maybe it comes with the same crap 17" WUXGA as the i9200
