New BIOS versions for 600m - Page 2

not a problem for me, Coolermaster Coolpad
post #22 of 61
Well I just got my 600m and it's an A3 revision and I tried using the A16 bios and it's just running at 266mhz so I called customer service and they're sending me a new one (still under my 21 days) so hopefully I'll get a new mainboard. It'd be nice but I guess I'm not going to hold my breath.

Is it reading 266MHz with PC2100 or PC2700 Ram? It will only read the full 333MHz speed if the current RAM in your notebook is PC2700. Otherwise it will read 266MHz w/PC2100.

I'll be getting a motherboard replacement early next week for a power-related problem. It supposed to be new so I'll report back when I get it. But since they withdrew the bios versions, I think they also withheld on upgrading the chipsets on the newer 600m's.

Just had a guy replace a motherboard. It's still A3 version and bios says 266mhz. Just have to wait a couple of weeks.

Bought my 600m in August 2004.
PC2700/333MHz DDR RAM.
Upgraded to A16, but still running at 266MHz.

quite sure the CPU-Z reading is accurate.. you sure you checked yours correctly on the D800?
Ok everyone is talking about 233 and 333 but when i run cpu-z and i go to the memory tab it only says 133 for my memory and i have 2700 installed. anyone know why or can help or explain?? Thanks
post #29 of 61
We are talking about 266 and 333, if your ram reads 133 it's 266 because you double the number of the FSB for DDR....

A16 officially shows up on dell's site:
A16 Bios

It's safe to update.
lol..so does ANYBODY have their 600m's ram running at 333mhz?
I would say probably not, anyone can feel free to step in and correct me. I should be getting a new 600m tomorrow so I'll let you guys know if it's a B1 revision.
so rocket733...what revision you got?
Well, I just had a system board replacement a week ago and it's still not the b-1. Dunno if/when they'll show up in 600m's.

Detailed Parts List

Guys, check this out. I followed the directions in the FAQ (here) on how to get a detailed parts list and look what I saw:

Hopefully that B1 means what we think it means. Now, I know what you're going to say, this might not be accurate. But! the rest of the parts are exactly what I received - Unlike the invoice that came with the system.

And the plot thickens...

Get the detailed parts list using the first way in the link. Follow it exactly and part numbers with their description will be listed.

I asked laffingbilly what could the B1 mean. He took a guess and said it more likely refers to the Plastic cover as it is listed after the "PLASTIC GRID ARRAY".

Also, I asked joybugoy who recently bought a new 600m to test his revision number using cpu-z and he says it still reads A3.

The B1 in the parts list looks to be the revision of the CPU (note: you must use cpu-z 1.27 to see this):
