Dell has upgraded the 600m manual possibly to reflect the new board. Memory type now says:

"PC2100 or PC2700 depending on your computer's configuration."

The older manual didn't explicitly mention the two memory types.

Though this may just mean that pc2700 is backwards compatible. Also, I looked over the manual and it seems that some features might be taken out. For example, in the (internal) microphone and the smart card slot descriptions it says that those features might not exist in the system depending on your configuration.

redgtxdi is supposed to get a system exchange soon, I'll ask him to check his motherboard revision when he gets it and report back.

I guess I should inform you guys that I asked a dell tech support on this forum about the new 600m revision and this is what he said:

However checking the on-line dell shop they're still selling systems with DDR266 mems. I can't really say when the this revision will be released because we my resources are limted to tech support issues. But I'm thinking they're getting rid of the older systems first.
Thus if you want the 333mhz support you'll have to sacrifice some features. In my case it isn't worth it as I need the gigabit ethernet and the internal microphone.

I just received my 600m last Thursday on the 24th of March. I downloaded the latest version of CPU-Z ( version 1.28 posted 25 Mar 2005) after reading this post as an older version I had left the revison block empty.

My CPU revision is listed as B1.

CPU-Z SPD tab indicates that PC2700 (166Mhz) DDR SDRAM installed.

Memory Frequency as listed on the memory tab is listed at 166.5 Mhz.

The installed BIOS is listed as A16 dated 18 Jan 2005.

Thanks to all for this post. I ordered the laptop with the minimum 256 Meg of RAM from DELL with plans of ordering additional RAM once it arrived. I just assumed that I would be ordering PC2100 as I've read in various postings on the site. GLAD I paid attention to this post!

If I could figure out how to add a file to the post...I would add the CPU-Z screens.

- Can you confirm that the frequency reads 333 on the first page of the BIOS screen? (a pic would be great)

- Can you confirm that the features mentioned above (gigabit nic, internal mic, smart card reader) are not there anymore?

Here is a quick tutorial how to embed an image directly in a post:

1. Upload the image to a site you already have access to or you can sign up for a free image hosting account such as in here: http://www.imageshack.us

2. When creating the post, surround the http link to the image between the [img] and [/img] tags or you can click on the icon on top when creating a post and insert the link in the box

EDITED 1230 PM, added link on bottom of page.
Mike,

The BIOS page DOES state that the RAM is running at 333MHz. I don't have access to a digital camera...sorry, I can't give you a picture. But it definitely states the memory is running at 333MHz.

The manual for the 600m is listed below. There is no mention of a smart card reader, internal mic. Mine did not come with a NIC.

Thanks. Can you also post the pic of the Mainboard tab of CPU-Z?

As for the screen shot of bios, I meant take a picture of the laptop's lcd displaying the bios screen. If you don't have a digi cam that's fine as long as it states 333mhz that's ok.

Let's just get this straight. The new motherboard that supports 333mhz got into the circulation just very recently (I would guess only a week or so). I had the a16 bios for almost 3 months now - bios still says 266mhz with a pc2700 stick.

It seems that CPU-Z still says A3 as the revision for the new motherboards.

Now, I haven't confirmed this a 100% with bobt but I'm pretty sure that the 333mhz motherboards don't support gigabit nic, internal mic, and sd card. Because of that I won't try to have my motherboard exchanged for the new one.

All, I'll try and get a pic of the BIOS posted later today....Really, it states 333MHz.
No internal mic or smart card reader. Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.

I added a link to the BIOS screen on my two previous posts. NOTE the system memory at 333MHz.

thanks bobt for the details and screenies.
EDIT: bobt you might wanna edit that screenshot pic to blur out the service tag.

If the specs of the base part in the detailed parts list say "Cost Reduced" you've got the new revision:

I've got this from redgtxdi's specs. He doesn't know this yet and might be livid when he hears that some features were taken away.

THANKS ixeo...I'm such a bonehead at times.

Ah, OK. I'm back!! Don't know how I missed this thread, but the last couple weeks were hectic to say the least..........(Thanks for the PM, Mich)

Now, answer me this............why of all days do I ONLY ever leave my laptop at home when something controversial comes along and I really need it?? LOL!!!!!!!!!

Ah well........what the heck. I'll definitely check things as soon as I walk thru the door tonite.

I know I didn't check the BIOS yet, 'cuz my screen still defaults to "dim" when on the battery & I remember wanting to change that. Ya, I know Fn up/down but I just want it to do it by default since these 600m LCD's are so friggin' bright. Might as well enjoy it! LOL

As for the stuff taken away......I really don't mind. I don't use any of it anyway, so no biggie. I actually, truly don't need anything more than my plain-jane A22M, but I got a good deal so kept the dang thang. So far, so good with this new one.......just waitin' for it to blow up in a mushroom cloud to fulfill the prophecy...........LMAO!!!

It seems you already have tried the first way as stated here in the FAQ:
http://notebookforums.com/showpost.p...03&postcount=6

Try the other ways. I have the SXGA+ and my detailed specs said Samsung as the manufacturer. The other ways (except calling) didn't work.

Yes, indeed. My memory shows running 512mb @ 333Mhz so I guess that part's good??

Now..........to find out if it's truly ALVISO compliant?? He he he he!!

I also see that the NIC has changed to Broadcom 440 10/100 (no biggie for me since I don't do anything at or even near a gigabit via network)

Don't see any smart card reader info and don't see any internal mic.....(though I didn't know it existed before so I don't miss it...LOL).

Didn't see much else in there so guessin' it's just a matter now of seein' if Alviso is a go or not. ???

"I'm not gonna try it.........youuuuuu try it. Hey.....let's get Mikey. He won't eat it......he hates everything..............Hey Mikey.......He likes it!!!"
