Just recieved my new 7700 lappy today and I tried to install Doom3, but I keep getting this error after the first disk

Error 1305-Error reading from file F:\setup\data\base\pak002.pk4 verify file exists and that you can access it.

I have tried loading it from both my optical drives and I get the same error.

I have:Windows XP Pro

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

best bet is to take it back and get a new one, make sure its not the game before worrying about the computer. if it happens again then start the diagnostics.

I had no trouble installing it on my desktop so I figure it is not the game.
I just installed HL2 without any trouble. Oh well not sure I will keep trying.
Thanks for the reply.

Is service pack 2 installed with XP Pro? It may be the problem. Or, It may be that your OS has a problem. I don't have service pack 2 on my pc, it has caused many problems for many people.

I had an incompatability problem with my print driver. I own an Epson 2200 and it would not load the driver for the printer. I took service pack 2 off, and the problem was solved. There are alot of problems that are showing up with service pack 2. I'm sure that most of the bugs will be taken care of in due time, but for me, I'm keeping it off my system until I see some positive changes with SP2.

Just to update on my situation I looked at my cd and there was a glob of something on the disc. I cleaned it off and Doom3 installed without a hitch.
Sorry for wasting your time and thanks for the help.

Couldn't be the blob. Must be SP2.

i had the same problem on the same file in Doom3 install because i was using alcohol to mount the iso. then i got a real CD and it installed fine. are you trying to install from a burned copy or an original cd?
