HP Pavillion dv1170us

I just purchased the HP dv1170us. I have to say I'm very pleased with it. After owning a laptop that was intended to be a desktop replacement, I decided that a 9 lb. machine was just not for me. I also realized that I could save a substantial amount if I could settle for an integrated graphics card.

So, here go the specs:
Pentium M 735/512MB expandable to 2GB/100 GB Hard Drive/14" WXGA display with Intel Extreme Graphics 2 IGP/802.11b&g/USB 2.0 x 3/4-pin Firewire x 1/PCMCIA

This 5.3 lb laptop has tiny partition on the hard drive that can operate the DVD and music player without booting Windows. This nearly doubles it's 3hr45min battery life to allow viewing up to three full length films. Plus, it has a credit card-sized remote control that tucks away neatly in the PCMCIA slot.

The video card is NOT for playing games. It is more than sufficient for everything except 3D rendering. But, in these last two days, I've discovered some really cool Flash Games that display beautifully on the WXGA screen. HP considers it "Hi-Def". Since, I don't have any content that is HD to try out on the screen, I really can't opine, but DVD's look really clean and sharp. It's contrast ratio is more than adequate for a movie-feel.

A standard-issue sound card is paired with two, very loud and clear, Harman/Kardon speakers. Although, they sit directly underneath your wrists while typing. This blocks some sound, but it is unlikely that you'd be typing while watching a DVD.

And a 100 GB hard drive on a laptop!!!

Here's the link on HP's website.

I love this machine. I'll play games on my XBOX.
