Which IBM notebooks come in 15.4" widescreens, what resolutions are they and what do you guys think about them? I know the Thinkpads are practically bulletproof, but I don't know if that's only the T42.

I agree about not giving false info to people, so why the comment "good notebook but screen has resolution problem" ??? What resolution problem are you referring to?

resolutoin problem? that makes no sense. they sell xga, sxga, uxga. how could they be a "problem". that's pretty vague and I don't think anyone knows what your talking about.

btw ibm does not sell widescreens so end of thread.

bulletproofability? I'm not sure. The LCD has a magnesium plate and hte ottom has a titanium plate. or vice versa. It might survive a bullet I have no idea through. I doubt it'll go undamaged defending against a bullet

Check out CNET.com review from buyers. Read their CON about T42. I personally think T42 is a very good notebook and I checked both Pro and Con about it. I also have read so many review about T42 from other website and there is also one review which also talks about the problem that the buyers mentions as well.

is this a misprint then? it says IBM Thinkpad R51 15.4" TFT

Definitely a misprint. IBM does not manufacture *any* widescreens.

BTW, ThinkPads (at least the T series) are as close to bulletproof as you will get for a notebook, excluding any fully-ruggedized notebooks such as the Panasonic Toughbook.

yah but who want to test if it's actually bulletproof? It's definetley drop proof . The laptop is lighter than my dell yet the LCD case is twice as heavy. And active protection can tell when I'm move my laptop across the desktop, nevermind dropping it I'm sure it'll stop the HD instantly. Now there's a little flex so if you hit certain locations I'm sure it'll be messed up but other than that it should be golden

Do you have a link to the thread that you are referring to? I have a two T42's... one 14.1 and one 15" and they are excellent. I've owned laptops from just about every manufacturer that you could think of and I've never had a problem with their screen resolutions.

how could anyone have a problem with screen resolution. they're standard!!! WTF.

If you have a problem with SXGA, XGA UXGA etc. then it's not a IBM issue its a specification issue.

It's like saiyng you have a problem with SATA or IDE... like IDe is IDe you meet the standards or you don't.

IBM doesn't do widescreens. They are an enterprise oriented company and do not dabble in entertainment.

Those 15.4 inchers are SXGA+ models.

maybe in the long run they would, since the PC division of IBM is already sold to LENOVO, expect to see some radical changes to the thinkpad range...
