15.4" is just fine for me. I want that laptop now!
Man, April 18th? why so long. I want to buy my laptop in March! hmmm decision decision....

If April 18th, we wouldn't see laptops on the shelves until early May if not later. The new Acer Ferrari will be over 2300 each as well. Since when the Acer Ferrari 3400 released, it was around 2299 wasn't it?

decision decision...

I hate making decision like this!

It still comes down to video card for me, I want an X800 and will not settle for less, I don't get why companies adopted the X series of cards but didnt go the whole way....

X800 + ATHLON64 + 17" = MY DREAM SYSTEM

SOME COMPANY PLEASE MAKE IT!

I wonder does it have to do with royality fee back to ATI and X800 cost more?
The X800 is NOT always better than the X700, X600, or X300 GPUs. They're aimed at different markets. X600 seems to be more of an economy choice, X300 an extreme battery life conserver, X700 a fairly balanced card, and the X800 a battery-devouring giant of a card. You do NOT want to pair a Turion with an X800. That would destroy the entire purpose of a low voltage processor. Honestly, you may as well have a DTR 3700+, since it'll be faster and the X800 is drinking all of your power anyways. In addition, there are size requirements for X800s, which means that they only show up in monsters like the 7620 and 9860.

There's no way in hell that we'd be getting a laptop with an 8-cell battery aiming for 4.5 hours battery life if it was equipped with an X800. With an X700, that may be possible.

According to AMD the Turion 64-based notebooks will be available at launch that is set for April 18, so there shouldn't be any more waiting beyond that

me almost the same but one more thing, GLOSSY SCREEN n SCREW THE SPEAKER, I DON WANT IT SO THE NOTEBOOK IS LIGHTER.

PCI Express + AMD 64 + 15"+

I personally don't care too much about weight and battery life. I just like the portability of laptops.

I'm wondering if I should expect a 256MB PCI Express + Amd 64 + 15"+ laptop soon. Shouldn't this be available even before the Turion comes out? And to be honest I don't care wehther it's the x800 or the 6800 nvidia card. Actually doesn't Nvidia drivers work better on Linux for OpenGL. Although I"m not sure if Half-life 2 runs in OpenGL?

Probably the PCI-express replacement for the Clevo D470K ( Sager 4750) is what you wan't. Clevo is supposedly working right now to repleace all their notebook lines with PCI-express notebooks. So that's probably a safe bet for A64 + PCI-e + 17". Since this is not a Turion system it could show up any time now, even though I would be surprised if it is anounced out before Mars.

No, he means he wants A64 + PCI-e + 17" + X800 or maybe X700. 4750 with pcie is good but still lack a powerful video card. If clevo do plan to make one like A64 + PCI-e + 17" + X800 or maybe X700, I think I would like to have one as well

If the 4750 moves to PCIe, I would guess that it would end up with an X800 (possibly a modular one.) It's a DTR model, after all.

True. I just didn't feel there was a need to mention that the PCI-e version of 4750 should come with nothing less than the X800 or an nVidia equivalent. I like what Arima and MSI have done with the 15.4" thin & light X700 notebooks though. This might turn out to be a though choice... Maybe I'll end up going with 4750 PCI-e replacemanet and and an MSI s270 12". That would be an awesome combination if I had the cash, and knowing myself I'll probably have nightmares trying to make up my mind... I guess I'll have to get a 15.4" x700 too and then file bankruptcy

I would say either a great desktop and an ultraportable or this Arima model. You're just taking it up the hindquarters if you buy a DTR and an ultraportable.

Only that it's coming, and that it's going to have the best possible specs
post #79 of 125
i wish acer would release a model similiar to the ferrari or the same design but without the colour red on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean it looks good in all, but I believe if they did this with an amd system it would sell more, why do i think this? Because i know people like me which prefer amd over intel, but in a different colour than red! I like the design of the current ferrari's cause they look great, but i wish it was a nice silver or something with an amd proccessor but not red

I think if acer did this, and used the same specs it could sell!
I agree lastdon - the red kind of turns people off. I mean, they have to bundle a red mouse with it for goodness sake!

I do like the red though, but in a public environment, I'd rather have silver/black/gray than something flashy.

The old ferrari's are pretty thin and light for the power, so if arima can make theirs 5.x pounds and under 1.5", I can't wait to see acer's response.

Also, someone mentioned HP releasing that 15.4" arima turion thin n light - Is that confirmed? Any other brands that may carry it? I was just recommended by my boss to not get a HP/Compaq unless it was in the business line for support and driver reasons. not sure if that has changed lately or what.
