I like the design of the current ferrari's cause they look great, but i wish it was a nice silver or something with an amd proccessor but not red

I think if acer did this, and used the same specs it could sell!
Yes, but unfortunately the exclusive deal that Intel forced them to sign prohibit them from making a good AMD64 laptop besides the Ferrari series. Have you ever wondered why there are no AMD64-based Acer Travelmate laptops?

And have you ever seen any reviews comparing an Acer Ferrari with an Acer Travelmate? You can thank Intel from this too, as they have Acer and all the major laptop vendors by their balls.

Hey what is worst, intel grabbing your balls or microsoft grabbing your balls.

I would say Intel is the better of the two. They have strong competition in AMD and would be more willing to shell out the big bucks since they're desperate. Microsoft has no one to challenge them, so no need to spend big money.

Please note the above post is just in fun, and I do not favour Intel, AMD, Microsoft or Linux. I am an open-minded individual who sees positives for all of them.

I dont care if Microsoft grabbing me, I dont have ANY original product of Bill Gates
And about the Snorre post, its easy ----Acer release the Travelmate 8100 before the new Ferrari beacouse other ways dont sell the travelmate.Ferrari got best specs!!

I don't want to start a debate or anything, but I want to clear up a few things. I have an AMD in my desktop. As of right now, I would want Intel in my future laptop unless Turion changes my mind. Each company has it's strength. For AMD it's Desktops/Workstations/Servers/DTR laptops, and for Intel it's Mobile chips. Turion may change that and if it does I'll be one of the first to jump aboard.

I just don't understand why people tie themselves to one company for life. Times change, and if you have blind brand loyalty you'll be left in the dust for a few months/years while it takes time for your prejudices to adjust.

Like I said before, I wasn't starting a debate. I would just rather be in bed with Intel compared to Microsoft mainly due to the points I illustrated above. I'm not saying Intel is better, but if I were a company I would go where the money is.

Ugh, no Cyrix. Having to patch games so they recognise your processor is never a good thing.

meh, as I understand it, the same type of thing happens with Asus...while they support AMD tremendously with their desktop products (specifically the mobos), they have traditionally partnered with Intel on the lappy side of things...they actually were the manufacturer on the test/intro model for the Centrino platform, that's why their AMD notebooks always seem to come in the backdoor.

I think so too, it was like that when Acer released the Travelmate 8000 series too. When the Ferrari 3200 came along it faced though competition, and with the introduction of Ferrari 3400 a little later there were no doubt left about what series were the fastest. I think the history will repeat itself this time around too, especially since the "Sonoma" is such a big disappointment. Mobility Radeon X700, however, dosen't dissapoint. Too bad that you can only get it on a crap platform so far, but that will change on April 18 I'm sure

How do you see Sonoma as a disappoint? It is just the Dothan Processor but with a faster FSB. It had modest gains in the benchmarks. Of course Sonoma wasn't going to be 3 times faster, all that changed was the FSB and teh Ram type along with PCI-E. Since PCI-E doesnt make any difference any ways the 5-10% increase in system performance can be attributed to the 533 MHz FSB and the DDR-II Ram.

U also gotta thinkg DDR2 is not faster in some test it shows that just normal DDR is way faster then ddr2 unless ddr2 is clocked at 667mhz........

I dont see the Sonoma as a disappointment at all, I see it as a step forward, and its holding up in most test, and scores.. also the p-m is built on p3 , which is still keeping up with some amd64 processors. but what makes amd faster is less pipes of the chips compared to intel, but if the p-m shared the exact same setup as the amd64 , meaning the same pipes, i could see it perform as good.

I think the full featured Sonoma platforms are beginning to pop, those with High Definition audio and whatnot, maybe we can get a full review of the complete platform soon...

Benchmarks Ive seen though show that DDR-II @ 533 MHz does have a higher bandwidth than DDR-I @ 333 MHz. But maybe that isn't what you mean?

i dont want to budge from the specs at all if possible....

i dont mind having a DTR.. but i do want it as small and lite as possible. That is why i list an option for processor and video card...
