okay to put desktop on carpet?

Thread Starter
hi,
i'm trying to reorginize my desk in atcipation of 8890. to clear some room, i want to put my desktop on the floor, which is carpeted. since there is no fans or anything on the bottom of the desktop, i'm assuming this is alright. will there be side effects on putting the desktop on the carpet, or is it completely safe?

Well, nothing is ever "completely safe" - but I have had my home desktops on carpet for YEARS w/o problems.

Now, working on them you must be VERY careful, as static electricity will build up, but for normal use, it is fine.

yeah mines been the floor since 1992...although it does get more dust in it....

The only problem as I see it is most desktops have some kind of intake or vent at the bottom of the front of the case. Putting it on the floor may limit airflow. Just get a thing piece of plastic or wood the same dimensions as the desktop and place the desktop on top of it.

Yeah if your really picky you can figure out the drag that the carpeting has on your airflow... or the effects of having a front door... You should dedicate a static free room to your computer.. .Or use your garage... Just messin

Set it (on the ground) and FORGET IT!! Gotta love Ronco

as long as it's not floor to ceiling shag carpet, it's alright.
