Acer Travelmate 3200 series discontinued?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I've been reading and researching laptop information using primarily these forums for a few weeks now. I finally pieced together enough data to decide what to purchase - which happened to be the Acer Travelmate 3200. This notebook is absolutely perfect for what I want in any way.

Now, the question - is this series discontinued? EVERY single warehouse i've called, and believe me i've called 20+ (even the mad sketchy ones) is out of stock and considers the model discontinued. The particular model everyone carried was the 3201XCi.

I am extremely disappointed. Is this series truly discontinued, or is there perhaps a newer 3202 model out? I can't believe acer would discontinue such a perfect laptop build. Thanks in advance,

-Matt Brown

Yup, it is discontinued. Replaced by Acer Ferrari 3400.

even their is unfortunately out of stock, I called them too

I was praying and praying that there might be an update to the 3201 travelmate, but there isn't I guess. It's a shame because the 3200 series is an amazing laptop, packing discrete graphics into a 4 lb USABLE non overheating POS package. Maybe sonoma will hold a better future

The Acer TravelMate 3200 series has not been completely discontinued, although Acer does do this quite frequently with specific configurations and models.

If you go the main US and Canada site, you will see there is a new configuration now available.

I'm assuming that you looked at all the following retailers:

from zdnet shopper

I'd be interested to know if you are able to find it. After a lot of research I think that this is also the laptop for me. It's the lightest one I can find with ATI 9700. It's too bad it's being discontinued.

Right now the other one I'm considering is the MSI 510C from rawpowerpc.com

the 3204 is available at CDW for 1799.99 just so you know.

I was thinking about buying this laptop, and was wondering if any current owners could give me a few insights on the heat of this laptop. Specifically the TM3204.

MSI M510C is a great choice! I too have been considering the Acer before finally getting the MSI. Only issue is that the MSI has a MR9600 vs the MR9700 of the Acer. Shouldn't really make much a difference as long as you're not into hard core gaming.

Anyway, MSI M510C is seriously a good option.

Yeah funny isn't it. That model is recently release not too long ago too. You would assume they use a better video on there...Or else it would've been a great laptop. Nice design, light weight and pretty good features too

I bought 3201XCi from newegg and been using it for a week. Unfortunately I got one that has cooling problem and I am getting it replaced. (New one should be here tomorrow) It's a great laptop, but not the best bang for a buck and there are couple of things I am not too happy about it... lack of S-Video and placement of bluetooth/wireless buttons. As far as heat I can say it doesn't get too hot, certainly you can feel the warmth, but it's bearable even if it's on your lap.

What was the cooling problem? Also, are those the only complaints you have? lack of s-video and bluetooth/wifi button placement?
Thanks
