Sentia Survey

Thread Starter
More for my curiosity than anything else, hows 'bout a survey of people with sentia's and any problems they've had. Please post your type(12.1" or 14.1") as well as any problems that you've had.(please also classify problems in your opinion, as minor, moderate, or major). Also add your overall opinion of the machine, I'll tally up in the post appox. wenever I feel like it.

I'll Start.
12.1" Sentia, one major, two minor.
Major:bad image cd w/respawn, killed my machine.(my fault, shold've checked the image before I used it.)
Minor 1: Wrong AC adapter sent with the machine.
Minor 2:A real pain to clean the casing.
Overall satisfaction: I worship my machine.

12.1" Sentia, one minor.
Whenever I close the lid, the backlights does not turn on upon reopening. I can standby the machine and then it comes back when I turn it on. I've heard updating the BIOS fixes this, but I've been too lazy to call AW.

12.1" Sentia, NO problems
Overall satisfaction: A+++++

I have a dead pixel, but Fedex is picking my sentia up tomorrow so alienware can replace the lcd. I don't blame alienware, since it really isn't their fault.

My backlight doesn't come back on after I close the lid. Hopefully that will be fixed after they replace the lcd.

Overall I am pretty satisfied. People at my school are always taken back by the eyes. One guy walked up to me and asked if it was a dell. I responed with, Do you think dell would make a laptop that has a an alienhead with blue eyes?

12.1" sentia, 1 moderate, 2 minor...

moderate: wifi sucks--i say moderate cuz it does work, just not all the time

minor 1: i ordered xp home, they install xp home, BUT they gave a sticker/product key for xp pro

minor 2: came with one missing screw for the bottom cover

overall satisfaction: almost completely satisfied. its everything i wanted although wifi issue really bugs.

Sentia version 1 with 14 inch screen.
1 MAJOR problem!
A mechanical pencil fell on my laptop from the top shelf and put a pin size hole on the paint. I blame Alienware on this, since the little alien should have been able to dodge such a primitive device.

Completely DISSATISFIED!!

Anyone who has read my thread http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=53277 knows of the problems that I have had.
I own a Sentia 12.1, so I'll solidify all the problems that I have had with the Sentia for you in a list (not the problems with AW):

Major
  • Bad wireless, that would disconnect often and had slow download rates.
  • Freezing and slow performance on simple apps such as Word
  • Gets extremely HOT when on and the fan was constantly on.
Moderate
  • Keyboard is very hard to type on, sometimes I got double letters and then none at all...also the space bar only worked if hit dead center.
Just to let you know I have taken all actions to try and repair the machine, and am still awaiting it to return from the depot! It is going on 45 days since AW received it in the Depot! And, Yes, I have been calling AW to find out what is up with the machine and basically it feels like I'm getting a runaround...

12" Sentia. My first Alienware

Overall Opinion of the AW experience (The actual Computer and AW): Poor

Major Problems 3:
- Hard Drive Failure in the first two weeks (Resolved via Depot)
- Trackpad. Mouse movement jerky, unpredictable and uncontrollable. Occasionally jumps around screen (pending resolution)
- AW financing. I signed up for 9 months same as cash. They mistakenly put me under 6 months same as cash. They acknowledged their mistake but It has taken over a month and a half to resolve and still waiting.

Minor Problems 3:
- Defective Respawn Image. They said they would issue me a credit two months ago and have not.
- Space bar is poorly designed. Must hit dead center to work. Poor design.
- Case was not put on properly from the factory. I had to unscrew a couple screws and re-seat to fix.

I don't think I will ever buy another AW. At least not a laptop. What is funny is that I make the computer purchase decisions for about 1000 people and before I got mine I actually thought that it would be cool to use AW PCs for my clients and get away from Dell. That's not going to happen.

Now i understand what your post contains. it lists down problems encountered with the Sentia. mine by the way was meant as a joke, and does not really belong in the MAJOR category. I have been very happy with my sentia.

I like the addition of power Cinema, and the hidden USB port for BT of the new Sentia.
I have a 12.1" Sentia.

No Major problems since owning (about 5 months).

1 minor = System crashes when opening one particular program, though this is NOT AW's fault (I blame Microsoft or the software manufacturer....or both). Have the latest update to the program, but it still crashes. Must be a nasty conflict with Win XP.

My vote = Extremely satisfied.

I have a 12.1" sentia

1 Major problem,
3 Minor problems.

The major problem is that the screen flickers non stop. It is un-useable unless you like the night-club effect.

The minor problems are a dead pixel, extreemly hot when on for any significant period of time, and the eyes don't glow.

You might want to get that fixed. I know it is a pain to send your laptop in and it be gone for a couple of weeks.

Two Problems have been removed by the request of the posters, they are still in the origional posts, merely not in the tally.

I would really like more sentia owners to respond, I feel(and I may be wrong) That we are getting an inaccurate picture of the sentia's general performance, as more people with many, many problems are posting than those with few or no problems. Again, I could be wrong. I could be that my sentia is one of a few great machines in a general pool of junk, instad of being the Normal, as I beleive. And more 14.1" sentia stats would be nice too.
