compaq R3000T series--any comments? - Page 2

Yes, they have a 30 day return policy on all HpCompaq laptops..

AMD's are pretty good and are reliable(comparing it to a P4). They also run a lot cooler than Pentium 4.
The r3000z(7.8lb) is a DTR so be prepared for it to be heavier than the I6000(6.6lb) and probably will give a little less battery life.

Other than that the compaq is very reliable and offers good performance.

THanks..hmm..i 'd like it more if it weighed less but it's not a big factor for me..because it will actually be a DTR actually, i have no desktop and i don't want to buy one because i'd like to freely move around the apartment with it

I just have to get a tough back-pack for the weight thou.

hmm..thanks man...that gave me an idea on some aspects i'm considering

My Pleasure..

One more thing if you are gaming on your laptop both have pretty low end graphics card...the r3000z more so than the I6000..so might consider something else.
If its just occasional gaming then either of them would do.

I wouldnt ever carry around my r3000z on a daily basis(like going to work, school..)

Hi
Did you end up buying the 3000Z? I love mine, and even carry it to work every day without problems, I bought the timbuktu XL messanger bag and it carries my laptop as well as files and work things very well.

Hi,
Glad to share, This was the system I ended up with,

- AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3700+ (2.40 GHz)
- 15.4" WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)
- 64MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) 4 440 Go + 1394
- 1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
- 80 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
- FREE Upgrade from DVD to DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive!!
- 54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
- 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
and with antinorton virsus software and 2 years total care package I got it for about 1750--configured system was about 1450. When I configured similar systems on other makes/models it looked like pound for pound that the compaq was about the best price, except perhaps for the Toshiba Satelite, and a number of colleagues had such problems with that laptop I didn't even consider it.

Hope you enjoy your dell!
Cheers,

Joy

We basically got the same specs except for the processor.
And i had my warranty only for 1 year but with home service.
