Recommendations anyone? Please?

Hi all! Newbie here. I'm in the market for a notebook. I'm looking for basic business use, some music & dvd watching. I travel enough so that size is a concern. I looked at the Dell website and thought the 700m was the way to go. Then realized that the screen size (12.1") was a bit smaller than I wanted.

Can anyone recommend the notebook for me? I'm not averse to looking at other makes either.

Thanks for any help!

If you want customer support, don't go with Dell. I'm also looking for a new notebook. I've narrowed my choices down to:

Alienware: http://www.alienware.com/main.aspx

and

Widow PC: http://alienware-exposed.com/?OVRAW=...OVMTC=standard

I'm sure everyone else that posts will have a different opinion though. Might want to check out this thread: http://notebookforums.com/showthread...ighlight=widow

It's helped me a lot. Good luck!

Don't listen to that guy!! Dells support sucks in general, this is true, but it doesn't suck any worse than anybody else's. I can give you just as many horror stories about alienware. Here is one that just happend. It doesn't get any worse than this. http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=53270
Besides' Dell offers Gold level support, if you want to pay about $70.00 bucks more for the length of the contract. It may suck that you have to pay more money for a high level support staff, but most companies do not even offer that. I will tell you that thier Gold support rocks!!! Hold time is no longer than 2 minutes they say, but It has taken me 5 minutes to get thru to them. They know thier machines well in the gold support department.

I have to totally agree with the above post. Dell support might not be amazing, but they are a lot better than most companies. The problem is the standard for tech support is so bad that crappy support is considered good.

As for the laptop, IMO the size of the 600m is almost perfect. I would wait a bit until a replacement for the 600m comes out since the technology it uses is a bit dated. I think the 600m is the best blend of size and weight, not too small but not difficult to carry around. I got a 700m because I wanted portability and I didn't think the Radeon 9000 in the 600m was worth the extra size. If the 600m had faster memory and a better video card I would definately have gotten it.

I'm just about to go ahead and purchase the 700m. I'm still not sure about the size issue. I'm hoping that it's not too small. I know the dimensions, but I feel like it's not something you'll truly know until you're sitting in front of it and working on it.

I've read some reviews of the 600m saying that it's not worth the money. Seems that your comments on it being dates are correct. Have you been satisfied with your 700m? What warrenty did you purchase? Did you get the extra protection plan? Not sure about that kind of stuff.
