hard drive replacement

I have a 5660 and the hard drive that is in the machine is ata-5, 60gig, 5200rpm, and I want to upgrade it to an 80gig, 5200rpm hard drive. The only question I have is that the 80gig is ata-6 and I'm not sure if it will work in my computer. Is is possible to put a hard drive with a higher ata number in a computer with a lower one?

i believe it is, but it will operate at the slower speed. I may be wrong

It will work just fine. It will comply with the ATA-5 staqndard, as well as, the ATA-6 standard. Only in your laptop, it will be an ATA-5 unit.
