Lappy Soon

Thread Starter
I've been trying to put off buying a lappy as long as possible. I was trying for May because when I transfer to another school I'm gonna NEED a computer. But this semster it is looking like I am going to need a laptop pretty soon. Which is kinda unfortunate because I am waiting for these Sonoma/Turion Notebooks to take off. So this is what I'm looking for

P-M 1.8 GHz or AMD64 Equilivlant
512 MBs MINIMUM, 1 GB Prefered (I can upgrade this myself)
Graphic Card 9700/X600, around those lines. I would really prefer something that is upgradeable but right now specs are kinda fuzzy for future lappys (unless the Eurocom M400A makes it's debut soon, but I doubt the price would be right)
Screen 12-15 inches, but weight is more important than this
Weight I would prefer 5 lbs or less but after looking for so long I am going to say 6 lbs or less.
Cost, this is subject to change, but I really don't want to pay more than $2000. And of course Cheaper=Better
Harddrive should be at least 60 GB 5400, I would like a 7200 but with my price I'm not so sure that is feasible.

Edit: Snorre, hit me with em'!!!

thanks guys, I'm still kinda looking around. I"m really trying to hold out as long as possible though, to give time for the Sonoma and othe AMD lappys to come about.

Both the ASUS A2k and the Sager weigh considerably more than 6 lbs...
Any AMD64 laptop will be heavier than your desired weight.
The CL56 is probably your best bet overall. It's hard to beat its price (especially at mwave where, as someone pointed out, you can get the system mentioned for 1265).
Depending on how you weigh it, the ASUS M6 is also about the same weight. You'll see a bunch of different weights listed for it depending on whether they're counting it with an optical drive or a "travelers' drawer" and also whether or not the power supply and everything is included. I believe that the CL56 comes out just a little above 6 lbs if you include the power supply and everything, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I guess you have already seen the models from Arima and MSI, and if you can wait untill April 18 (the launchdate for Turion 64-based notebooks) also HP, Acer, Asus will release theirs.

I had pretty much settled on a Twinhead N15RB before news of the x700 lappies hit. It's semi-rugged with a full magnesium/aluminum case and a spill-proof keyboard. Seems like it's built to last and I like the look compared to most of the other 9700 offerings. The only downside is that it is a bit heavier than what you're looking for weighing in at 6.8 pounds.

Check it out here: http://www.discountlaptops.com/index...egory_theme=c1

A 1.8 Ghz Pentium M with 128mb 9700, 1 gig ram, 60 gig 7200 rpm, DVD-Burner and a 15.1" SXGA+ screen will run you about $1900.

April 18? Thats sooner than I thought. I remember reading that the Turion would be launched 2nd half 05, Im a hold on a few more months

Edit: I just saw the lappys from Arima yesterday! They look great! <that's not beer, it's whiskey!!!
