Battery Delima for 5660

Would it be better to get a spare primary battery (switch them out at ~1.5 hrs, ~3 hrs total), or get the dual bay battery (~2.5 hrs total, no swapping). The spare primary battery is $100, and the dual bay option is $116. Any suggestions? I don't know how much I'll really use it off the power grid, but I'd like to be ready if I end up off the grid. I'd at least like to be able to watch Fellowship of the Ring on trips. I'm leaning towards the spare primary right now. Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas/etc.? Thanks in advance. If you need to know more info about what I'll do, just ask it.

What do you plan to do with the second bay then? It probably makes more sense to get another primary, but with a secondary battery, switching won't require turning it off.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Why not get both?

Heh...I don't have the moolah. If I did, I would get both. Well, maybe I could.

I'd say ... buy the extra one for the secondary bay now, and when you get the money, get a spare primary. Unless you plan to use that secondary bay, OR if you just want your laptop to be lighter (in which case buying the primary won't help you anyway) then I think utilizing that extra bay would be the smartest thing to do.

Yeah, the spare primary battery would end up like it is with the 8886 and you'd have to turn off the unit to switch up the batteries. I'm not sure, but I think the 5660 has screws for it too... someone correct that if it is inaccurate. It might just be a hassle though. I wish I could build a connecter for the battery bay that would allow for just an external spare primary battery to be attached to the 8886 (or the 5660 for people in your situation) so that the unit wouldn't have to be turned off... but it wouldn't be so easy, lol. I'll have to think more about that :-) Not to mention I'd need a second primary battery to do it, lol, but if I can get an idea working I bet sager might even go so far as to consider it if it's any good, lol. IF it's any good :-) Best of luck to you in your decision!

According to PCT's review of 5660, it only has 1 screw, compared to the 8886's 4.

Actually, the primary battery is a quick release, like bay #1. I really would like at 3 hrs of runtime, for a LotR DVD. That leaves the spare primary battery option, becuase it's closest to 3 hrs. Are there any options?

Yes, it's quick release, the main media bay has 1 screw holding it in.
