Sony s-series or T-series?

I currently have the sony s series lappy. About a month old and pristine..

but lately i've been looking at the new t series and would rather have the smaller form factor than the extra oomph of the video on the s series.

So what should I do? Get the T series or is it not worth it? If so, find someone to trade with me or sell on ebay?

I have an extra battery and a circuit city warranty with it as well...

Besides the extra power provided by the dedicated gpu, you dont need the extra power that you get form the faster processor? Also, is the smaller keyboard on the T large enough for you? The screen size?

You raise good points and I've thought about them...

I have a desktop for gaming, and the most video intensive thing I do is watch movies. The cpu difference wouldn't matter. A majority of the time I rarely if ever max it out. Nor do I do anything that the t series cpu wouldn't be adequate for.

The screen size would be good (i like small) and the keyboard would take some getting used to, but should be manageable.

Would it be easier to sell it or trade? Are there any downsides to the t series? (like they really suck bad??) Don't get me wrong, I love this notebook, but would love even smaller.

I say just keep the S series for now... it's a good line

yah i don't see much of a reason to lose money switching to the t.. maybe in a year or so when there are more persuasive reasons.. but for now i think it's not a great step.. it's not like the s is a huge beast.

It is, compared to the T.

Yah, I see what you guys are sayin'..but it's all about relativity. How big it is is relative to what it's next to!

Are there any other laptops out there that have the same type of options. ati 9700 with a 4.2 lbs case and a 13.3 in awesome X-Brite screen?

As far as I know of, the only one is the sony s series.

You would think that with the success of the S Series, other companies would start making a smaller, gaming capable laptop. Just a thought.

They probrably can't. Asus makes sony's laptops, so sony probrably has dibs on that model and no one else can get it perhaps?
But I'm sure down the road eventually...

Having used both of them, it's more than just a small adjustment - particularly if you'll be doing a lot of typing. The T-series (especially the new ones) is very nice and very portable and even the hanging battery feels stable. But if you're going to be doing a lot of typing or have thicker fingers, it can be a very tough keyboard to use.

Asus makes sony's laptops? Interesting, i guess i knew that sony didnt make them, but i figured it was some no name manufacturer, not Asus.

I'm currently looking for a laptop in the same size range...I've switched between wanting a T series, S series, the fujitsu 6231, and I toyed with the idea of the Asus M5n and S5n...I just can't decide. I won't be doing much that's graphics-intensive on it, but I also don't want it to lag at all if I encounter light graphics work. I mainly want awesome battery life, great build quality, thin, and light. the Sony S series would fit me perfectly if it weren't for that useless shallow keyboard and the annoying recovery partition...

What would you guys recommend?

Oh, and if your S series isn't falling short of what you need it to do, why are you looking back and considering the hassle of a change?

The s series has been absolutely great in every aspect for me, except that I can live with a 10.6 inch screen instead of 13.3. The smaller is just better for me. I don't game at all, nor do I do anything that is even remotely video intense, so it's more practical for me to have the t series. Other than that, the things been a champ, and I really am amazed at how well it does with battery life when you compare it to a laptop with similar or lesser specs.

I would like to have the t series now, but unless I find a prospective buyer I'll be happy with what I have now.

I'm not sure what you mean with the keyboard, mine's fine, but as far as the recovery partition goes, you can just use partition magic or paragon and delete and remerge the partiton. I did it with mine, and it's not hard to do at all.

The build on this notebook really is good. I used to not be a fan of sony's in the past, but they must be doing something right lately. No flex on the casing, magnesium alloy, great screen..yada yada....well, you know.

Then I would recommend the S360. The keyboard is solid and not too shallow, the build quality feels rock solid and you can dump the recovery partition once you make your restore disks. It meets all of your other criteria easily.
