are you going to just flash the STANDARD mx800 bios? you do realize that this may frag your card?

the bios i've been given and handing out is NOT modified to work with the m9800.

it has never been suggested that the standard mx800 bios will directly work on the 9800 and unlock another 4 pipes.

IT HAS ONLY BEEN SUGGESTED THAT WITH THE MX800 BIOS, WHACK MAYBE ABLE TO MODIFY A BIOS FOR THE 9800.

DO NOT FLASH THE STANDARD MX800 BIOS UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO LIVE W/ A BROKEN CARD OR HAVE A WAY TO REFLASH THE M9800 BIOS.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

What would happen if you downloaded the MR9800 bios update on dell's site, renamed bios.bin to "81719217", and replaced it in the \dell\drivers\r87747 directory? (81719217, I assume, is the bios file for the v.8.17m.192.38 update that was posted on November 1st)

HULK: I was under the impression that the X800 and 9800 were closely related enough to be able to just flash it right on top.
They are close but not close enough
on beyond3d.com it reads about it
i wouldnt flash it straight! = FIRE
its gonna get hot and fry
and if u cant flash back.... ooops
too if u have money to burn(literally) you could flash it straight
if it fails and u cant flash back
youll have to put ur 9700 in and clear some bios out

it's possible, no one knows, we are working on the theory that it should be easier to enable 4 pipes on the m9800 bios using knowledge gained from studying the x800 bios, rather then trying to convert the x800 bios to work on the AGP bus.

I already setup ATITool to load it underclocked at like 270/230. Wouldn't keeping the frequency down help out? And will it be possible to Flash back?

exactly. hopefully whack's got a copy of bios by now. i also sent a copy to w1zzard from techpowerup.com

no word from either of them.

ewww... i thought if u flashed "straight" you would fry... Expecailly an x800 desktop card. But now we have the mobile x800 card bios. But its pci-e arcitec and we have agp... so who knows, if mobile is only 12 pipe lines i think we should be ok by keepin in underclocked. The mobile 9800 and x800 are similar
Just run the fans on super duper high
its worth a try....

whether or not you can flash back depends on the options you use when you flash.

you should read this

Actually now that I think about it probably would not work since the MR9800 is AGP and the X800 is PCI-E.

So as whack has been saying, the x800 bios is merely a guide to figure out how to unlock the pipes yet keep the AGP settings.
exactly
thats why we need to take from the pci-e bios and pretty much write our own AGP x800 bios for our mr9800
