formating 7422gx?

sorry for the newbie question but im having trouble formating the notebook. ive never had problems with me desktop and formating it using fdisk etc...

but on this notebook i cant even access the dos prompts without windows being active.

what would be the best way to reformat it since im i want to install win xp pro.?

Use XP setup to delete the partition, then recreate a partition and format it.

all i see in the setup screen is the choice of - upgrade or New Installetion(advanced),

it that what u mean? jst choose the new installetion? and it will partition and reformat?

There is no DOS prompt now - DOS is strictly run through an emulated command box. So you can't access what passes for DOS w/o Windows being active.

Actually, the reason it can't be formatted through FDISK is because NTFS partitions are invisible through a FAT type partition. This was done by design for security reasons. It's one of the "features" of NTFS

There is a version of FDISK that can see the NTFS partitions (it's included on the eMachines/Gateway restore discs that use Ghost, I think it's the Windows ME version). Cant create them with it of course, but will let you delete them.
