get your Win XP 64-bit 1289 while it is hot.
It came out 01/25/05.

Awesome ... been waiting for it to hit the public servers. 1289 has been available to Beta testers for a while. Thanks for the update!

Yay, lets see if 64 Bit is worth the hype!!!

I have the last version of it on my desktop. What's the difference in this one ? Also, what good is it if you can't play games on it. Whenever I tried to install a game it says it wanted win32. Am I missing something ? Can all games and office programs run on Win 64 ?

Thanks,

LouSir

Figure out how to get 1280x800 screen size.
Use the mod tool and manual installation afterwards

From the release notes:

Quote:
Applications
16-bit applications
64-bit products do not support most 16-bit applications.
Most 32-bit applications that use 16-bit Microsoft ACME Setup versions 2.6, 3.0, 3.01, and 3.1 and InstallShield versions 5.x install correctly.
No 32-bit applications that are installed by other 16-bit setup programs are supported. If you try to install one of these applications, the message "\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application" appears, and the setup program closes without installing or starting the application
Perhaps the apps you are trying to install are using a 16-bit installer?

Office 2k3 pro works OK. Some of charts in an excel file tends to have fixed size with window, and I couldn't resize the charts, but that could be some other problems. My excel files are typically little over 100 MB and originally created with office xp. There could be some incompatibility between them and xp and x64.

I haven't installed it yet, but will give it a try this weekend. I think the broadcom wireless drivers that were made available a few weeks ago were extracted from build 1289, so it should have them built in.

The built-in wireless driver works fine with my m6805.

Worth it?

I was going to install it on my 6809, but I won't after read this review

http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_cont...xp64rc1&page=1

They ran a lot of benchmarks on it, you won't see a real different in performance, because even the OS is 64bit, our applications are still 32-bit.

I will wait until more application develop for 64bit, or else I will stay with 32-bit for now.

Questions : any other good 64 bit OS that works well? linux? which one?
