same question regarding wireless g release for the 8890

I have a 5670 with wireless g. only it requires a pcmcia card. it works great. advantage to having a removable wireless is that when I don't need it, it is not consuming power (or I don't have to remember to turn it off via software) Plus if it goes bad , purchase another one/spare. Internal goes bad, off to the repair shop for the entire unit. I use built in nic for work, and wireless at home, it works great.

Internal wireless does have the better range, taking advantage of the bigger aerial, which is important to a lot of people trying to cover their house with a single AP / router. Obviously it doesnt use up a PCMCIA slot and consequently it's not as easily breakable if you're as forgetful / clumsy as I am, I have managed to rip a wired NIC apart by leaving the dongle in when I put it in the case.

PCMCIA is on the other hand cheaper for some reason, and as you say eaier to power down, and can be swapped between laptops if you have more than one.

I've said in another post that I believe the 8890 will have a mini-pci slot, due to the options shown on eurocom for wireless network, although I cant completely rely on anything from eurocom and havent heard confirmation. If this is the case then miniPCI 802.11g cards are already available to fit yourself. Havent heard of any miniUSB cards out there yet so I suspect it will be a while before sager offers this option.

We're not sure when it will be available, but I don't think it's too far out. They just need to get the MiniUSB versions in.

one more question. will the 5680 have the antenna in there like the 5670 so that i could instal a mini-pci wireless g card like that one guy bought off ebay where he upgraded from b to g?

Yes it will have an antenna in there but you have to keep in mind the the Wireless card is NOT mini-pci. They are using mini-usb now, so you would not be able to swap like that guy did buy pulling the mini-pci card from his router.

i understand that sager is waiting for mini-usb to use for wireless. however, i don't understand how that means i couldn't use a mini-pci card. does the 5680 just not have a mini-pci slot? i wasn't planning of pulling a card from a router, just wanted to buy one from the ebay store. also, what's the performance advantage to min-usb over mini-pci anyway?

after looking at the specs on the 5680 they describe a mini-pci card...so i'm really not sure if they don't have it or not. here's the specs from the page:

"Built in wireless 802.11b antenna and optional wireless MiniPCI card; optional wireless Bluetooth MiniUSB card"

but either way...if u opt out on the integrated wireless...u will still have the antenna installed...so u can install one in the future.
