here's an idea from w1zzard:

"an idea could be to install a remote control application, boot into windows with borked video, run atitool from remote and check the # of pipes .."

do you have anything like vnc or gotomypc.com access?
or just use rts, if it actually does go through the boot process even though you can't see anything on the screen then that could work.

Pray, share your findings with us!

I was looking at a couple of different X800 bios and noticed something different about the bios for my Dell mr9800 card. It seems to be longer than any of the other ones I looked at (mrx800 and a desktop x800 agp version). The last line of the regular length code and the first couple of lines of the "extra" code is:

00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 F8
38 41 54 49 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 8ATI
45 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 E

Not sure why there is extra code or what it means, but the fact that it says 8ATI is interesting...

Maybe someone has already noticed this but I thought I would throw it out there.

got a reply from unwinder, creator of rivatuner/nvstrap:

"NVstrap uses NVIDIA specific softstrapping technique, which allows some of
GPU parts to be reprogrammed dynamically. It doesn't apply to ATI hardware."

and with respect to which editor would be good to use:

"IDA is everything you need."

i'll look into IDA when i have more time

I think we can make it worth your while. What is your paypal username/email. I think if we all pitch in 10 bucks per person it might make it more reasonable for you to spend time researching.

work's been real heavy lately, so i don't have much time for messing around w/ this as much. short version, what is IDA?

it would be funny if all you had to do was change 8ATI to 12 or 16ATI and you'd get a 12 or 16 pipeline card. it actually is the perfect idea, hide the answer in plain view! (i know all of what i just said was total BS but what the hell)

Why don't you ask for some help from the guyz that make the omega drivers and the radlinker? They will probably be interested.

wonder if the bios flash will ever let us overclock?

whack,

in comparing the Mx800 and M9800 bios, here's some things to try. all offsets are taken from hex workshop.

there are 2 insertions in the 9800 bios not found in the x800 bios. maybe we should remove these.

at offset 6569 [0x000019A9]:
91 0080 0000 00D2 9FA5 0E25 03FF 0201 0303 00E0 1F00 0000 0000 0000 0000 00

at offset 12917 [0x0003275]:
90

there is 1 deletion from the 9800 bios that's in the x800 bios. maybe we should add this.

between offsets 21673 [0x000054A9] and 21674 [0x000054AA] in the 9800 bios which reads: 7601 FFFF

add: D201 D301 D401 D501 D601 from offset 22204 [0x000056BC] in the x800 bios

so that you get: 7601 D201 D301 D401 D501 D601 FFFF

it would be best to make 1 change at a time and flash and note any differences. then flash combinations of 2 changes and then flash all 3 changes at once.
