Ok Orestis, check this over and let me know if it's ready to go, or if you want some edits before I bundle it up again and post on my site.

ATK0100 - Replacement for Asus' HControl.exe
..... allows disabling Audio DJ keys .....
..............by Orestis82

This has been patched from the latest (25/1/2005) ATK0100 utility from Asus.
Install that version, if necessary, before applying the hacked one.

Tested on Asus M6BNe and M6Ne only thus far.

---------------------------------------------------------

Instructions:

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! BE A SMART MAN/WOMAN AND KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL HCONTROL
FILE AND REGISTRY. DON'T TRUST ME, CHECK FOR VIRUSES. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING
FIRE TO YOUR PRECIOUS LAPTOP!

Though I have tested this on my system first.

1) Stop, via the taskmanager, the HControl process.
2) Rename C:\WINDOWS\ATK0100\HControl.exe to C:\WINDOWS\ATK0100\HControl.exe.original
3) Copy HControl5.exe to C:\WINDOWS\ATK0100 and rename to HControl.exe
4) Start the new Hcontrol.exe file
5) Check to see that it has the normal behaviour, i.e., play button launches a DVD player.
6) Add the registry value provided by running the disableplay.reg file or adding the
following key to your registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATK0100]
"PLAY_ENABLED"="false"
7) Press again. Happy ?
8) Not happy ?
9) Change that "false" to a full path to an executable. It should not be a full case BAT.
Lowercase bat is OK.
10)Press again.

---------------------------------------------------------

Additional registry modifications for running a program of choice with the Internet and
Email buttons. This will work with either the original HControl.exe or with this
modified one. You do not have to make the above HControl.exe change to use these keys.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! BACKUP FIRST!

1) Open regedit.exe
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
3) Create a new key: ATK0100
4) In the new key add two string values:
EMAIL_KEY
INTERNET_KEY
and, as the data, add the program that you want to run.

WARNING: If the program you enter doesn't exist, the application will hang and you will
have to go to the task manager and terminate it yourself, and restart it.

If you want to revert the keys to their normal use (the default mail and internet program)
just remove or rename those registry values.

---------------------------------------------------------

Additional credits for this work go to Arno, the creator of the Power4Gear extension:
http://power4gear.bk-kicks.com.

Also to Oleh Yuschuk, the creator of the OllyDbg prorgram that made this hack possible:
http://home.t-online.de/home/Ollydbg

And last but not least, all the Asus community at http://www.notebookforums.com, that
helped make my choice.

Peter, it's very good, thank you for your interest. I wonder if we should attract more attention to this from the other M6Ne owners, I think it will interest a lot of them. Maybe a new post with just a link ?

Sounds good. I'll get it uploaded and post the link here. I'll leave it to you to start a new thread in the manner you want.

Stay tuned.......

Ok, here is a page I put up for the file with a bit of a friendly face.

I also added a version (1.0) in case there are later changes.

Somebody please test it and make sure it works ok. It worked for me.

Orestis, go ahead and start a new, dedicated thread if you like. I'll put a link to the thread on my page if you do. Otherwise, I'll link to this thread.

Worked like a charm (M6Ne here)!

A big thank you to Orestis, for all your effort and hard work. Good job.

Pstrisik, thanks for hosting it. The link worked just fine. I posted the link on a dutch forum, that will spread the news as far as the netherlands go..
